I don't think 'real' vanilla people think or even know about the D/s side of our world. BDSM is all about hurting one another with Sadomasochism. A slave is strung up and tortured and a dominant is a satanic character in black leather that gets his jollies by hurting vulnerable looking females!! They have no understanding of the subtleties of mind play or leader relationships that involve no acts of pain.

Aye S&M, and all the more reason to help those whose family members are attempting forced intervention and removing that other member's right to decide how he or she lives their life as long as it generally not against the law. remember that mental Health persons tend to make judgements based on their experience including their concept of morality which usually is against kink. This is why BDSMers need to have a network of kink friendly professionals so you don't start with the deck stacked against you. Here and in the cases I referred to, I am not looking at education those other family members nor the "professional team" but rather to look at helping the victim beat those who would in one form or another imprison him or her and not allow the freedom to choose to which can be added when there are personality issues manifesting, to handle or refer to other kink friendly professionals which can then remove the obvious legal case for the family to take legal action. Others better equioped can take on the education though as the Bible comments "You can't make silk purses out of a sow's ears.

Things must be very different in Australia than in New York. None of the psychiatrists I've known, either personally or professionally, would have agreed to be an expert witness to a court to get someone hospitalized against their will for something as minor as a butt plug. Here, there must be clear evidence of a desire to hurt oneself or others. Without clearly expressed suicidal ideation, such a thing cannot happen.

It was personality disorders such as being disruptive which can get a court hearing on psychiatric grounds here the kink was being used as proof of self destruction and perversion. A very good Lawyer friend and lodge brother handled the legal aspects (which were far more complex than I have described but then I'm no great hand with the intricate legal aspects) pro bono as did I for the therapy so ordered by the courts.
