Caught a great lecture today on electrical play.  After a long demonstration with the violet wand (I really want one of the good ones) it capped off with a discussion of stun guns.  The sound comes in at a primal level and the bite is impressive in a quick touch.  I'm wondering how popular they are in play?

the violet wand tho powered by electricity is actually RF play or a form of somewhat random high frequency radio wave if you will exactly like lightning.  the violet wand is a scaled down encapsulized version of the original inventor nikola tesla in the early 1900's.  stun guns, cattle prods, and dog callars are direct electrical shock and much more dangerous. at least until you get into the big tesla coils which can be lethal.

teslas coil here:http://home.earthlink.net/~drestinblack/tesla_inventor.htm
you can see pics here: http://home1.gte.net/res07cmo/hv/wingate/wingate.htm
and here:  http://www.drmegavolt.com/underpages/index_gallery.html

as far as electrical play is concerned i said my piece in triplicate here:

We have a violet wand and yes they can be interesting. I would think the stun gun is a bit excessive, I could see this leading to some impromtu CPR. The most radical I have seen as far as something extreme and still safe, and that's questionable, is the electric fly swatters.

I, personally, wouldn't go there.  More of a risk than I'm willing to take.  Though, a friend of ours offered a guy $100 bucks to let him zap him one time with a 20,000 volt stun gun in the thigh.  The guy accepted, and they got it on video.

As much of a Sadist as I am, it was kind of horrific to watch, in a way.  He got zapped, tensed up, and proceeded to piss himself on his way down to being a heaping convulsing mass on the ground.  He was unconscious for about 2 minutes.  Kinda scary.

Anyways...to answer your question, how popular are they in play?  I'll leave you with this...I've never seen one used.

As always, YMMV.

As a former CO for the State of Texas and Tennessee, i am qualified to make this statement. STUN GUNS have no business in BDSM world. The dangers are not worth the risk. These things are designed to immobilize threatening individuals for one`s personal safety. Texas (TDCJ )does not even allow their useage in the prisons anymore. Tennessee (TDOC,archaic and a joke of a prison system anyways) still uses them but one has to be qualified (via CO academy) to carry and use for prison purposes only. Louisianas system quit using them because of an inmates death. The powerful voltage sends a current through the body that may affect the heart or nerve system to a point of permanent damage or worse, death.

Stun guns are out there- not terribly popular yet but have a good presence.  I saw Boymeat a few weeks ago doing a scene with someone with two stun guns- was pretty awesome.

I think it's a level of pain that would likely have me on the floor after a single shot- but some people really enjoy it.

Ive only seen this technique in play twice-once at a play party and once during a demo on fear with FD Midori. It looked pretty wild, but I wouldn't be one to try it.

I asked to have it used on me once during play, at my request. It did bring an intense shock of pain , which was thoroughly enjoyable. However, Chris made it plain that they would NEVER be used again.

Violet wands are a wonderful tool, and the one thing I emphasize in classes is to try it out before buying if possible. Different ones can and do have different feels and intensities. Be sure it has a ceramic core (wax will melt in any form of serious play) and get it with a real on/off switch, not a push on switch.

Stun guns can be fun and useful in play. I primarily use them for psych, but have used and have seen them used very effectively in play. Such play is, on my part, done with a great deal of caution (and often a low battery to tone things down).

The key to keeping it safe is knowing what you are doing, and that includes using the items on yourself before using them on others; asking a LOT of medical questions of the person with whom you are playing (and getting doctor clearance if/as needed); and, keeping a close eye on things as play progresses.

A few snippets from the handout I give out at classes and workshops:

Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety
1. Always check your partner out first. Anyone with a known heart condition should not engage in electrical play or electrotorture without being cleared by their cardiologist. Anyone with previous heart problems needs to check with a physician before playing. People with autoimmune disorders, such as lupus or AIDS, or insulin problems, such as diabetes or hypoglycemia, should check with a physician and use caution. Remember also that everyone is different, and that play that is safe for 9,999 people out of 10,000 is not safe for everyone.
2. If there is any problem, or someone doesn’t feel well after play, get them to a cardiac ER immediately.
3. Always check the condition of your equipment before starting. Be sure it is operating properly, is in good condition, and is – where necessary – sterile
4. Keep most play below the waist. Even play that can take place above the waist is not ok for everyone.
Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety, Safety

Electrical Play and the Heart
The heart is essentially a hollow muscle that contracts on a regular basis. This contraction is caused by an electrical current created by the sinoatrial node, the natural pacemaker in the heart. This current causes the muscle to spasm/contract, which causes the blood to pump. Anything that disrupts this current can cause heart problems. Electrical play can cause the heart to spasm out of normal phase/rhythm, or can damage or destroy the sinoatrial node. Even if momentary, such interference can be deadly. For this reason, most play takes place below the waist.
****
In electrical play, damage or death can occur for two main reasons. First, the play generates a signal that is at the same frequency range as the human heart and nervous system, overloading one or both. Second, the power (amperage) of the charge used is sufficient to cause damage to the body. For this to happen, the charge must penetrate the body, particularly the heart. To avoid making the heart a part of the circuit, play is kept below the waist.

Basic Types of Equipment/Sources

Violet Wand
The violet wand creates a high-frequency charge, essentially static electricity, that can be played over most of the body. The charge is for all practical purposes, both localized and limited to the layers of the skin. Since it does not penetrate the body and create large-scale muscle contractions, it is generally safe to use anywhere on the body.

TENS Unit
Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) units are designed to help relieve chronic pain. They provide a constant stimulation that varies in both strength and frequency so as to raise the pain threshold in the person using it. This also has the effect of feeling like fingers brushing the skin, kneading, and more. TENS units can, with extreme caution, be used above the waist.

Muscle Stimulators
Passive exercise equipment sold on TV and in magazines. While billed as being safe to use anwhere, anytime, they should be used with extreme caution above the waist. Given some of the junk out there, be cautious about using some of these period.

Hand Crank Generators
For extreme use only, and never, NEVER above the waist.

Stun Guns and Prods
Designed to motivate and protect. They are extreme, make good mind-fuck toys, but need to be used with caution. They can and do cause physical harm (burns, muscle and joint damage, other),and can cause death.

Wall Power
Don’t even think about it.

Train Transformers/Neon Transformers/Other
Don’t go there

Batteries
DC power is not a good idea. Think of the bulb filament burning white hot. Think of your flesh being the filament in the circuit. Enough said.

Electrostimulators
These are units specifically designed and manufactured for electrical play and electrotorture. These are sometimes called Folsom units after one of the most widely used and available brands. With one exception, they are for below-the-waist play ONLY.

Just a few quick thoughts.

I love electrical play, and Master and I have a TENS, a PES, a violet wand and several little electric flyswatters (which give little more than a highly-concentrated, localized zap similar to the violet wand, but slightly more intense).  I've seen cattle prods used in play, but only on the bottom's bottom, and would imagine a stun gun would be much less "predictable" in terms of how one handles the shock, simply because it does affect the nervous system much more strongly than any of the more common electrical "toys."  I think if someone wanted to use one on me, I'd have to pass.

I have one of the flyswatters (takes 2 D cell batteries) that I just use to kill bugs.  It had a good kick when I tried it on myself but haven't used it in play (yet).  Can they be used above the waist?  I'm thinking nipples in particular.  Not gonna go there without knowing for sure.

I have used one of these fly swatters on nipples and breasts before and I have gotten good comments on the sensation.

Any severe form of electrical play is off limits with me. The possible implications of nerve damage and arrhythmia from electrical shock is deemed by me as too great a risk for any girl under my wing. A 9-volt on the tongue or clit is as far as I go with that.

Midear Liz-

'Boymeat' Phil from NYC? Where was the demo?

My own experiance with electricity is almost compleatly on the job- I work with electronics on boats, and have worked in light rail yards- but it leads me to a few pertinant observations:

Some people are more conductive than others, and enviormental/physical conditions will vary their conductivity even more. I have ataken a 'hit' of 600 VDC, which should have killed, or even burned me severly, with little or non after effects (it seemed to clear my sinus, actually). I have also had arm spasms from a 12 VDC Battery (much like an auto's starting battery) when sweaty and a bit dehydrated. 120/240 VAC (household current) also seems to vary greatly in how much I feel it/react. Tens Units barely tickle me, even at full output (A PT once changed batteries and units three times before admitting defeat<g>).

Just as people vary, 'Stun Guns' seem to vary greatly, form a thousand to three hundred thousand volts in the ones I just googled. The amperage would vary depending on the resistance of the target potion ofthe circut (the SIQ).

Like most things, I'd put them down to safe, with some research, and for me, it sounds too much like work (if I am plugging in extension cords, I want to get paid<g>)

Stay warm,
Lawrence

I love the fly swatters, though I have been told that others don't appreciate them quite as much. *G* The quick round-up of what I have is Folsom PSG, Folsom PSG Max, ErosTek, Violet Wand, Fly Swatter, vaginal probe, Jr. plug (never want to meet the large version), panty shield, probes, nipple clamps for use with the PSG MAX (only Folsom/similar unit that can be used above the waist), few other accessories, TENS unit, stun guns in different sizes, and I think I'm forgetting something but can't remember what it is. Need coffee. While technically not an electrical toy, I also have a Photosonix unit that can be hooked in with the ErosTek to provide sound and light to go with the sensastions.

There are many sizes and styles of stun guns, and they can be much more predicable than some of the cattle prods. Come to think of it, I need to replace the prod, thanks for the reminder. :)

Stun guns are not for everyone, and the key here, as with all things, is discussion and respecting of limits.

Yes, that Boymeat, not a demo- NCSF party/fundraiser at the Playhouse.

I was quite content with my scene involving a PES vaginal plug and hitachi.

Oh and I've never met any bottom who actually LIKED the flyswatter.

You have the Violet Wand I want Satan Claus to bring me...  The presentation was by the original test pilot.  Unfortunately, Eros Tek (I thought it was Erotek but I don't have a box to look at) is closed.  I was given a demonstration with it at my very first play-party.  There are many imitators but it doesn't seem that any of them are up to the specs of the "Lightning Hands."

I'll just have to hope one shows up on E-bay.

I will point out that cops have used stun guns on 'clients' and albiet rarely, have cakked a few.  Let the tasered beware.
