Do you think the way you quoted Sokrates is making the statement or Aphorismus better or more important? and have you thought about it for a minute that the phase where you are in at the moment, the phase of deep and serious intro- and outrospection is a phase that other participants on the board have had in their lives and now are in another phase, which is by no means more or less important than yours?

BitaTruble,

what a beautiful set of extensions to the starting words of SunshineMiss.

Oh, sunshine, I loved it.  Often so many people are analyzing, scrutinizing, compartmentalizing, and doing everything that they can to externalize everything, when they haven't done any internalizing.

I wouldn't trade My experiences where I felt like I was living in the moment for a hundred hypothesis.

LEts not forget about the arrogant who think they can determine who is who...

I focus a lot on what my motivations are, and the undercurrents and details of how I interact in a Ds dynamic. I learn a great deal from others who are willing to share what they know of themselves as well, and how their dynamics work. However, you and Socrates both insist on not examining your own lives, nor others lives, but rather forcing others into the molds you think they ought to fit. It is very arrogant and annoying.

January -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/26/2010 9:00:59 PM)

Thanks for starting this counter-thread, sunshine.

These self-styled intellectual blowhards who quote ancient Greek philosophers in big red letters or dream they are correctly paraphrasing the random German mystic/psychologist are missing a big, BIG thing: understanding emotion.

All the strutting, superior, book-learnin' in the world won't give these two young men the key to understanding the nature of human relationships. That would include love and bdsm and and worship and faith and even hate...

Yeah, a person can analyze emotion, but it's a sterile and futile exercise if that man doesn't have the heart and empathy and instincts to back it up.

This thread is blatant anti-thought, which I have every right to dismiss.

Also, thinking critically about oneself and not others is ridiculous, not to mention tantamount to, on your part, a form of (ideological) fascism, like your privacy is so sacred I can't even *think* about it.

Maybe George Carlin was right when he said that the Germans lost the war, but the fascists won -- the new form comes dressed in smiley faces, sunshine, pills, and crude materialistic 'raw experience'.

laurell3 -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/26/2010 9:13:04 PM)

The thread is fun, it's expressing self, emotion, frivolity, humor, laughter and yes even intelligence. It's called life and living all of it. You make an assumption whenever you post that you are the only intelligent one in the room. You aren't, by far. There are just many of us that want to embrace ALL of it and our theories of ourselves are always the best judge of who we are versus some unknown person on the net that doesn't have the tolerance or sense to listen to ALL of those expressions.

No. The thread is full of thought. It's just not your thought.

Go ponder that for awhile. Alone, please. Silently, please.

Andalusite -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/26/2010 9:20:48 PM)

I have no problem with you thinking about other people. Asking questions about people's motivations, thoughts, and emotions are fine. When you assert that you know what their motivations and emotions are better than they do, it comes across to me as unconsensually asserting power and authority over them. You aren't the thought police, and you have no right to tell me what I should think, what I should feel, and who I am. As you admit it is an invasion of my privacy, but more than that, it's an attempt to force me to think the way you do.

Yep.

There's no evidence to support any of these claims. That's the joy of anti-thought, I guess... it's convenient and doesn't require, well, anything at all.

Too wordy? No. Incomplete? Yes. People also do stuff because of obligation, loyalty, sacrifice, challenge and a host of other reasons or for no reason at all or just because they feel they *should*. Sometimes it's damned uncomfortable, feels really wrong and they hate it, but.. they do it anyway. Such is the nature of the beast called human in a realm known as D/s. [;)]

I don't know Celeste... that sure sounds like "it feels right" over here.... *smooch... how is the move btw? I been missing you!

Andalusite -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/26/2010 9:39:40 PM)

Umm, I told you that when you tell me what I think or feel, it annoys me, especially when you are inaccurate. I don't understand what evidence you would need beyond my word for it that I am experiencing the emotion of annoyance toward you. [;)] Or are you claiming that I am incorrect, and that you do in fact have the right to dictate my thoughts and emotions?

This is brilliant.

So you have any emotion whatsoever, and it's justified?

I love talking to anti-thinkers. It's fascinating.

I'm saying that I have in no way dictated your thoughts and emotions, and that there's no evidence of anything to the contrary.

On the contrary, I'm reacting to anti-thinkers dictating anti-thought.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/26/2010 9:51:00 PM)

Silence,
I don't actually see any anti-thinkers here. I'm not 100% sure what that means, but it would seem to mean people who are against thinking. I would not presume to speak for others, but I will say that *for me*.... I am not anti-thinking. Heaven knowns, I'm not. I also am aware that a person's character, the essence of what the person is can not be folded up into only one part of them. People are constantly evolving creatures made up of thought, feeling, and behavior. To dismiss two for the sake of one is woefully one-sided. Balance is a beautiful thing.

I've yet to see anyone say "don't think" about it. What I have seen is people saying add action to your thoughts. Examine not only thoughts, but your behaviors and emotions. Examine all of it. Find what is lacking, make the changes, and learn.

Best,
sunshine

Rabble rouser! [:D]

/highjack

Ugh, we've been living in "corporate housing" which is a fancy way of saying in a crackerjack box that doesn't have insects. Seriously, 350 square feet, $3000 a month. Unreal. Milan is so freakin' expensive! That said, the company has picked up the tab for it so we have taken the money we normally would have had to use for rent or mortage and have traveled around a bit. Took a day trip to Switzerland last weekend which is not as exotic as it may sound because we're only 45 mins to the border but the Swiss Alps are amazingly beautiful and was an energy recharger that we both needed (plus I won 47 ch - that's francs- at the Casino Lugano! Go me! (Okay, it's only about 40 bucks USD but it was on the nickle machines! lol)

Other than that, you know.. we're pretty boring so same ol' same ol' although I must say without the Internet, I haven't had a lot to do except clean (which takes about 15 mins a day in this small place.. plus, there's a maid - not a very good one, but still!) and practice my Italian which has gotten fairly passable and I think Himself is pleased with my diligence and progress in my study. He has learned how to say *pizza* and *spaghetti* properly, but that's about it. ::grins:: I still haven't found butternut squash ravioli, but I have a lead on a place so the hunt is on!

Moving into our new condo on June 2nd (have no idea how long it will take to get Internet this time but Himself has said he refuses to live without television any longer so he's getting something called Sky or Skybox which I guess is a dish network type of thing here and hopefully, Internet won't be far behind. It's just a matter of getting through the red tape and in Italy, there is red tape for EVERYTHING. It's so different from Portugal where the entire staff speaks English to come to Italy where only a few people speak so he's hired a PA to translate for him.

Big plus - His office is only about 20 mins a day instead of three hours right now and the new condo is actually within walking distance so that means I get him 3 more hours a day than I had him in Portugal so I am super excited to get my Master back during some actual daylight hours! :D Okay, highjack over!! Yer still a rabble rouser though. ;)
