Unfortunately, not me.

There's no evidence to support any of these claims. That's the joy of anti-thought, I guess... it's convenient and doesn't require, well, anything at all.

The joy of being a young, arrogant, pecker head is that you are too young and arrogant to realize you are. Meanwhile, older, wiser, and more life experienced people, laugh at you.

Ponder that thought.

June?....did you know sex was icky?

Just another reason that ours is a love that will live forever!

LaTigresse -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:06:33 AM)

Sex is icky??

I guess I will take your word for it. It's been so long I think I forgot. I must have mentally, blocked out the 'icky'.

The same ones chomping down Viagra and medicating their Herpes infection (and their depression.)

I'm really impressed. Tell me more, wise one.

Honestly, though, feel free to focus -- I'm defending thought, of all things, and I think simply that 'just experiencing' one's life is pathetic, boring, and ultimately meaningless.

I find stupid people unattractive. And casual sex (or sex where money is exchanged) unrewarding.

Sounds about right. Block it out.

You are quite thoughtful and charming. I am sure you will go far.

divi -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:18:52 AM)

Figures hes from NY and his one friend is Socrates lol

OrpheusAgonistes -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:23:08 AM)

quote:

The unexamined life is not worth living. - Socrates

The Symposium is my sentimental favorite Socratic dialogue.  People sit around, drinking insane amounts of booze, and argue about lust and love.  Socrates (who would have won every drinking game my frathouse ever had, hands down) cracked jokes and was vaguely lascivious.  Later, Alcibiades (spoiled rich kid, badass soldier, gorgeous traitor, all round stud) broke down the door with his entourage and spent much of his night making a fool of himself making drunken passes at Socrates.  The sequel, which was entitled "Alcibiades and Pausanius Engage in 'Discourse' While Aristophanes Watches From the Closet" was deemed "too hot" for the masses and the only known copy (complete with engravings) to survive is currently in the sock drawer of a don at Balliol College.

What people are trying to explain is that discussions need not be arid, barren, and devoid of all colour and texture.  Not everything is a matter of life or death.  Not every discussion is a discussion of First Causes.  I mean for the love of God, man, I am the most pompous, bombastic son of a bitch you'll ever (not) meet and the posts about which people are complaining (I take care to mention no names though I may repeatedly incline my head toward a particular party) suck the life out of me.  Yes, me.

Just because many of us are older than you, does not mean we are in need of Viagra or STD treatment. Or that we have had casual sex. It also does not mean that our brains have frozen up and are no longer incapable of thought. In fact, I read a study recently about women over 40 (though it probably applies to men also), they proved the more mature brain is capable of much more complex thought and learning than it was 20 years prior. A healthy brain never stops improving.

So what that means is that, you can postulate and attempt to insult all you want. People like me will simply continue to yank your chain while laughing as you dance like a puppet.

Silence, in my time here, and in the college town I work in, I've seen dozens of young people like you come and go. Intelligent and arrogant. So full of yourself you cannot see past your own theories and black and white facts. The reality is that, you cannot see yourself as I see you. It is impossible.

With time, you will either implode because the rest of the world will not function the way you think it should, or you will get the piss knocked out of you and become a much more balanced human being. I hope for the latter but have seen many of the former.

What? Sexual experience is icky haven't you heard? You should be theorizing and quoting dead philosophers instead of getting laid you nasty trampy bunny!

Really?...icky?....... wow... I have been SO wrong for SO long.

I need mentoring!

Yes you do.....Silence8 said sexual experience was icky....I, on the other hand am all sorts of open to your "mentoring". [;)]

Jeffff -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:35:25 AM)

Good.... I will make it EXTRA icky!..:)

LaTigresse -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:41:40 AM)

I am just curious why he is so obsessed with other people's sex lives. I've never been promiscuous but that's just the way I am built. I used to wish I was, it would be easier sometimes. Hell, I had a sig. other that treated sex like going out for coffee....we found a way to make the relationship work and protect one another.

I sure as HELL won't look down my nose or criticize someone for being different than I. That's just asinine.

laurell3 -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:48:40 AM)

Yeah I'm pretty far from promiscuous LaT, I'm just joking around with Jeffffff, but I think there is some disconnect and entitlement going on here that clings tightly to theory because of a fear of any experience. I have no idea how that makes any sense whatsoever. I've been to college, I have a couple of advanced degrees, I've read a whole hell of a lot of theory, it didn't mean all that much when I went out into the real world to actually DO things and realized life is situational, work is situational, people are quirky and individual and incredibly difficult to address with any theory.

I do think sunshine's thread is awesome because all of these things, experience, life, education, laughter, love and celebration make up an overall balanced opinion that is more likely to be realistic and reliable. But even then, all we really reliably know about is ourselves and as we age we realize that's a never-ending process as well. I'm here to laugh and learn about me and would never be presumptous enough to say I know more about someone else than they do about themselves.

Jeffff -> RE: Sunshine's theory of D/s (5/27/2010 7:54:58 AM)
