I agree with Missokyst that it is not necessarily "very common", but it is one of the activities which can be witnessed, especially in FemDomme porn geared towards men.

While my communication with slave type men is somewhat limited (imho and by personal choice) I have noticed this activity to be desirable among the segment that I spoke with. Psychologically having to crawl in front of adult humans is humiliating and demeaning and definitely places an individual beneath others......at least psychologically. Being naturally analytical I still find why some people want to do some things mind boggling.

They are genetic traits. At some point in our distant ancestral past, a human had sex with a dog. Although most such couplings do not produce offspring, one of them did. Over many generations of breeding, most of the canine genes have disappeared, are recessive, or the traits have at least been sublimated.

Interestingly, the remaining canine traits are also largely sex-linked, much more likely to appear in males but not females. The traits remaining in those with the relevant genes include not only the lowering oneself before the "alpha" and crawling on all fours, but also the following:

love of chasing moving objects, particularly balls of any type
strong culinary appetite for virtually anything, with the exception of vegetables
insatiable craving for attention, particularly when it involves petting
remarkable talent for creating messes, but inability to clean them up
irresistible attraction toward bitches in heat
strong tendency toward whining whenever they want something that they're not getting

All of this has been scientifically proven. I read it on the internet somewhere.

There is a ritual that I have implemented in My home. If I have been away from the house, clip is to be kneeling in front of Me when I come through the door. It signifies his offering of himself to Me. The kneeling has everything to do with the position that I want him to be in. Yes, kneeling has been used to express submission and / or reverence for some time now among humans. It has likewise served as a gesture of trust, open surrender or pleading. All of these things mesh very well with the Mistress and slave dynamic.

As for crawling on all fours, since humans are bipedal and stand upright naturally, the symbolism infers being reduced to a bestial state, though not necessarily of the canine variety. Crawling symbolizes defeat, humiliation, animalism and an overall lower station brought by the infuence of a higher power that is dehumanizing its thrall / victim.

Mine doesn't. He kneels when he first greets me, but as far a round the clock kneeling or crawling around on all fours, that would make mowing my lawn a bit more difficult, now wouldn't it?

If the OP had any experience in an actual D/s dynamic, the answer would have been self explanatory. It simply screams 'because the Dominant wants it that way'. See, anybody who has had actual dealings with a Dominant person is going to know they come in two varieties on such subjects. They either want their s type to do this or they don't based on how the Dominant wants things done. Some Dominants don't do it at all because they think it's silly or they like it because of some personal preference.
