RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus

Source: BBC Researchers have found that implanted identity chips can pick up computer viruses. Reading University’s Mark Gasson conducted an experiment to show how radio frequency identity (RFID) chips could become electronically infected.

He explained to Rory Cellan-Jones the risks involved with the new technology including its effects on medical implants such as pacemakers./snip

Maybe I could find an amusing video of a cat shoehorned into a silly costume on youtube...

Pahunks rampant paranoia is only surpassed by his gullibility.   Pahunk, I have a survivalist compound complete with beach frontage in Arizona if you are interested.

Does it have a silver mine?

Moonhead -> RE: RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus (5/27/2010 2:16:52 PM)

Isn't anything that can transmit radio waves going to be a hazard to pacemakers, virus or not?
(The clip also states that it's possible these silly RFID things might be able to pick up a virus, not that one has without researcher spending a lot of time and effort to find a vector for one.)

LOL.

BBC did this story. Not me.   So BBC would be "paranoid".    Ouch for them.

Phones and cars can now have viruses- so if we transhuman our self it is plausible.

that is what chips are.   "transhuman" and hopefully you do not want to go there.

Moonhead -> RE: RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus (5/27/2010 2:21:56 PM)

But they aren't. They just mentioned that somebody said that it's possible a virus could be transmitted to an RFID chip, maybe.
Your first link, on the other hand, takes this fairly innocuous and measured suggestion and then goes beserk in the manner of a 12 year old who's just drank a couple of bottles of pernod.

So are pacemakers.
And prosthetics, vaccinations, dental work, hip replacements, knee replacements, me taking insulin as injections rather than my pancreas manufacturing it for me, any form of vision correction at all, hearing aids, surgery, blood transfusions...

You'd be cool with doing away all of that and living like an Amish, would you? I didn't have you pegged as an extropian, but for Christ's sake, have you no bloody idea at all how widespread and pervasive this shit is?

pahunkboy -> RE: RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus (5/27/2010 2:26:32 PM)

Wow- BBC turning into Alex Jones.

Cool.

That stuff is not a chip.

Chipping you voids your brain.   Get it?  You do not download programming into a human.  it is sick.

No, he was the squeaky voiced sort who sang that song in the Raymond Briggs cartoon. I'm pretty sure that was on ITV when they put it on the telly.

for all I know you are ALREADY chipped.

Enjoy your NWO master.

I think you've read too much William Gibson, mate.
The chip in question is an identity device that transmits and receives radio waves. There's no way in hell it can have any connection to the victim's nervous system.
Do you think it comes without any firmware in the first place, or something?

pahunkboy -> RE: RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus (5/27/2010 2:32:13 PM)

I think you should look both ways when you cross the street.

There is your analogy.

A car cant possibly hit you, can it?

I'm not chipped. They haven't even got around to issuing id cards over here yet.
(And I don't need a NWO master: I'm one of the Queen's bitches subjects, remember?)

So precisely how is a virus supposed to spread from a chip into your cns? Should I be worried about the screen flicker queering my brain if I'm using a PC that's picked up a dose as well?

pahunkboy -> RE: RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus (5/27/2010 2:34:23 PM)

Ok- moon.  You are not chipped.  I believe that- because once you are- you are unable to resist it then.

electrical impulses run both the chip and you CNS.

Oh, you're thinking more of John Christopher than William Gibson. My mistake.
