To the Original Poster, I would have to ask if you are looking for the belief that submissives are abused to the point that any syndrome could be generated? In any relationship period there is a possibility for abuse however Stockholm Syndrome usually refers to a Captive, one who does not know why they were taken, or one who is in essence a Prisoner for a purpose. Stockholm Syndrome requires the captive to be there by force, taken from the street, abducted from a home, caught in the midst of battle. This is not something that a submissive in the BDSM lifestyle is likely to encounter. There are Fantasy works where people write about capture and abuse to realign a person to the mindset of a submissive but in most cases those are no more than erotica. In the BDSM lifestyle the majority of people are with their partner initially by choice.

Now Battered Wife Syndrome is very possible in the BDSM lifestyle but happens more offten in the Vanilla World and just about any type of relationship is capable of ending there. The Battered Wife Syndrome is very Similar to Stockholm Syndrome as the focus on the good side is what keeps the person indebted to the abuser, the difference is that they are there by choice and in most cases defend to themselves and others the actions of their abusive partner as because of something they honestly think they did to deserve it.

I would ask the OP to ask themselves what they think Stockholm Syndrome really is, I would think that the OP sees Stockholm Syndrome in a Romantic way, and if so I would ask them to look toward Roleplay and other Fantasy Based expressions of love in this lifestyle other than the ACTUAL syndrome.

First, I can see where a naive idealist who isn't too well versed on either the Stockholm Syndrome or BDSM might think this would be interesting or could even happen. However, unless you undergo the harsh conditions that one must in order to even have the possibility of developing the Syndrome, you really could never develop it. I don't know anyone who would voluntarily undergo those conditions.

Second, any Dominant or Master worth a damn would want to foster positive feelings of devotion to them. What Dom wants their sub to only serve Him out of pure fear, or guilt? This relationship certainly would not last very long. Especially when the other consenting adult saw a way to move on with their life.

Oh yes, least we forget...the words consenting and voluntarily completely negate the situation needed to set up the conditions for the Stockholm Syndrome in the first place.

I love this website. So much to learn (never where you think, though).

I don't like popcorn, though. I've been eating healthy lately.

The better question, though, is if effects similar to the 'Stockholm Syndrome' exist even in vanilla relationships.

Yes.

The reason for that is based in the hint for research I gave to the OP. That is something which also has an effect in consensual D/s or M/s. It is one of the mechanisms that cause it to happen. It is not, however limited to any group, thing or form of relationship as long as there is a relationship.

Be well....
