Status: offline 		And for the record, the culture that brought you sanitation and arithmatic, now seem to be mired in a backwater - perhaps you could produce some facts that can prove me otherwise. That isn't racist, that is an opinion, and would seem to be born out with the facts.

Look at how racist they are. They are xenophobic and distrust outside influences, while the West assimilates and welcomes them.  Also, the Arab states have not made any technological advances for centuries.  As Fareed Zakariah also mentions in the article dcnovice mentioned, they produce hardly any books either.

Upon reading Zakariah's article, I have this feeling that the great foundation of capitalism - work and you get rewarded for it - has not hit the Arab world. There are those who get money from family holdings or oil sales, and that seems it.  I have never heard of any Arab owned company (not in the Arab countries - there are some in the US).  I'm not sure if that is because of the difficulty in raising capital there, or just plain not understanding the value of work.

disappearing posts are what ruined the efficacy of this board last round.  The efforts of a few to control and suppress unpopular view points.  Other boards are getting more lax and tolerant in an effort to let the chips fall where they may.

How do you feel about that rich?   Do you think its because commercialization and suppression of cultural and political views would cause their going backwards after the ottoman period?
