In other words...they're clueless.

That BP blew off the safety measures to prevent what no one else can solve either doesn't make them better.

Key word- BRITISH!

How DARE they!

Musicmystery -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 11:46:47 AM)

No. Key word "petroleum."

Brits aren't washing ashore in the Gulf.

Get a grip.

pahunkboy -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 11:49:42 AM)

Why aren't the profits American?

Musicmystery -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 11:51:35 AM)

Mod 21 already cut this thread in half once over nonsense you instigated.

WHY AREN'T the profits American?

It is a legitimate question.

Musicmystery -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 11:55:51 AM)

The royalties are. As they are for the other companies drilling in the Gulf (some 3000 platforms).

The concept of sticking to a topic really does escape you.

That video just seems to be in the background wherever you go lately. The oil, spewing up and out. Some seem to find the image hypnotic.

Also, just out of pure curiosity, what about the old "pouring oil on troubled water" thing? Might the oil actually diminish the waves and storm surge if a hurricane gets into a slick?

pahunkboy -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 11:58:43 AM)

Dude- we fund this shit.  It is on topic.

Musicmystery -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 12:02:47 PM)

Sigh.

BP got the blow out, it could have been anyone drilling in the gulf.

Nobody ever had a plan.

The Bush idiots let people start drilling deeper and deeper with nothing for a plan except to decide that the likely hood of an accident was so small no one needed a plan.

The Obama idiots decided to open more deep water leases with the same plan.  This after watching the one in the Timor Sea blow oil for 3 months.  Somebody should have said,  wait can we do better than that?

What we have is the only sure method to cap one of these there ever was.  A relief well.

They had safety/prevention plans.

That is, those who used them.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 1:07:04 PM)

There was never any plan for what to do in case of a blow out at a deep water well.

You keep punching holes, one of them is gonna blow.

Yes, there was. And had it been installed properly, this wouldn't be happening.

It's why they are called "blow out preventers."

MstrPBK -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 1:16:29 PM)

The worst thing that could possibly happen now is ...

Hurricane would form in the gulf and move towards land ... think about it folks it could conceivably happen.

Not conceivably--it WILL happen. We're in an active hurricane season, and oil will gush all summer.

Incorrect again my friend. BP dropped the British part ages ago. The company working in the Gulf, although owned by BP, is BP America. They have a HQ in Texas and employ some 30,000 people, mostly Americans I would guess.

They also operate under the current US regulations, pay US taxes and supply oil for American cars.

pahunkboy -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 1:35:36 PM)

Polite- this is my oil spill - in that- I consume, glutton and fund it.

I share the blame on it.     (seriously)    I wish we had a better world- until then- I feel blessed to have creature comforts.

cloudboy -> RE: Oil on troubled water (5/31/2010 5:58:05 PM)

There really is only one tone I can accept about this BP disaster -- ranging anywhere between upset and outraged to bewildered and dispirited.

The only positive will be stronger regulations to protect our environment going forward, its just sad that something like this has to occur to wake up the establishment.

This is kind of an American Chernobyl situation as I see it.
