I'd never get seriously involved with someone who wasted his time playing computer games. I try to use my spare time productively, and am most compatible with someone who does the same.

That is interesting, personally I would never get seriously involved with someone who didn't know how to just relax and have fun. Don't you ever do anything just for the pleasure of doing it?

What on earth makes you think I don't relax and have fun? All of my leisure pursuits are 'for the pleasure of it'. I wouldn't pursue them if that were not the case. I do, however, require huge amounts of intellectual stimulation in order to be happy, and if I'm going to spend time with someone, he or she needs to enhance that need. I think it unlikely that someone who sits in front of a computer, playing games all night, would be able to discuss the latest developments in contemporary art, fill in the gaps in my classical-music education, talk knowledgeably about politics, and 'get' the stupid jokes I make in French.

Chacun à son goût, as they say in Peoria.

. . . Plus, you're quite good at getting pissed in pubs and challenging blokes to arm-wrestles, V.  You forgot to mention that.

In My experience, most dynamics don't go from zero to sixty in no time flat. It's always worked better in My case to take little bits of control at a time, get those areas established, and then take a little more. That way, you can deal with any potential issues that come up in layers, rather than all at once.

BINGO.

It also bears noting that some of us may actually have -terms- for the steps we go through with servants to get from 0 to 60... "probationary period", "under consideration", "initiate", "kettle" -- everyone starts somewhere, and every relationship has a beginning and a progression that works for the individuals involved.

It also bears noting that, at some point, any of the parties involved may decide that the way things are progressing isn't working for them -- and there is usually the option to either re-negotiate or walk away. Starting a relationship doesn't mean the instantaneous end of either responsibility or choice in most cases. Walking away may not mean that either party is a 'bad' person -- just that the interaction isn't workable for them. No harm, no foul.

What? It was important. We are talking about a limited edition ya know[8D]

It's not like it was some stupid game you could pick up anytime.

Priorities must be respected.

Don't forget the one of a kind in game treasure...

And had I considered you a real bloke, I would have challenged you to arm-wrestling, as well, but I knew you'd be crushed when you lost . [:D]

Ok, just clarifying. From your first post it didn't sound that way which is why I asked.

You would be surprised how intelligent some gamers can be. My sister plays WOW and she's a rocket scientist. Well ok, she's a aeronautical engineer, but still my guess is she could carry on a conversation with ya. My ex is in Mensa and she's a gamer too.

Shit, I had forgotten about that. All the more reason....

I know that we're getting way off topic here ... but I can assure you that a lot of the gamers that I know are perfectly capable of entertaining away from the computer/gameboard. Just using me as an example - I might not understand your jokes in French, but you might not understand the ones I make in German either; I listen to everything from Handel to KISS and pretty much everything inbetween, so I'm not lacking in classical-music knowledge; and I enjoy most art, from ancient to modern (although I admit, I hate politics and tend to stay out of those topics as much as possible).

Being a gamer doesn't mean that all we do is computer games. Nor does it mean that we're wasting time. A lot of the games that I, personally, play are puzzle games, and I feel they help keep my mind sharp because I actually do have to think - it's not just point and shoot (although those are fun from time to time as well).

I concur. I play both online and tabletop RPGs, and find that doing so actually enhances my capacity for creative thinking, which in turn provides a vast amount of material for the fiction that I write. The fact that I game doesn't mean that I can't hold a conversation on a wide range of topics from artistic to philosophical to political and beyond. I am an accomplished pianist/keyboardist, a passable percussionist, and a mediocre guitar and clarinet player, am well versed in reading music, and in classical, jazz, big band, show tunes, various forms of rock, etc. I am also fairly well versed in avant-garde fashion, visual arts and film-making (thanks to offspring and their mates who provide me with a wellspring of information on said topics -- often as we get together to table-game or MMORPG).

While there are those whose behavior is bounded by some activity they participate in, and while there may be good reason for some of the stereotypes that exist, I find it much less limiting, on a personal level, to find out about the -individual's- behaviors rather than attributing stereotypical behavior where it may serve no other purpose than limiting me from enjoying potentially pleasant encounters.

So, Calla - by any chance do you play RuneScape? lol

PeonForHer -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 11:22:22 AM)

FR

Look, before we all get into a competition as to who can sound either the coarsest or the most pompous, can I just point out that no-one has a cat's chance in hell of winning against me?

SweetDommes -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 11:33:26 AM)

competition? nah ... just pointing out that gamers are just as likely as non-gamers to be "cultured" and "intelligent" and have hobbies that don't include sitting in front of a computer or video game console.

And peon - as much as I like you, you don't have a prayer against us (not just Holly and me - but all the Dommes) [;)] we are just awesome.

No, but I'm always up for new RPGs... does it run on Mac? (That's been my sorrow, of late -- two games that I could become completely enthralled with... including the new Star Wars MMORPG ... won't run on my Mac... which I adore, BTW, and which I love more than any game).

SweetDommes -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 11:43:50 AM)

Honestly, I don't know. I think it does - but as I don't have one, I'm not sure.

Valve released Steam for Mac not too long ago. (I'm not sure if you're familar with Steam?)

Andalusite -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 5:54:05 PM)

A fairly high percentage of gamers are intelligent, geeky types. I wouldn't want to date someone who was obsessed with games, or with another hobby, to the point where it had a negative impact on their life. I know a vanilla couple who broke up over a game, a while back. She got home from work, stripped off her clothes, and sat in his lap while he was playing an online game. He said, "Hi, honey, can you shift over a bit? Your tits are blocking the monitor."[:(] When I mentioned it to my previous Dominant, he joked, "If I ever do that to you, just go ahead and shoot me. I'd already be dead, and just not quite realised it yet."

SweetDommes -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 6:06:45 PM)

Yeah - I'm a gamer ... and a self-professed geek ... but omg, I'm not THAT into gaming lol

lurch999 -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 8:49:39 PM)

The game, to respond to a poster that i couldn't immediately find, was Red Dead Redemption.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: What would you do in this situation? (6/3/2010 9:55:22 PM)

Well at least it was a most excellent choice of game!

You know, I was about to reconsider my position, until I got to that bit. [:D]
