Hello Pennsylvania,

While I have on occasion had very appropriate situational depression (end of a relationship, death of a loved one, difficulty with a major move), most of any longer term depression I had was while recovering from PTSD. That was a pretty rough time, but happily 15 years in the past. Last year, I didn't have my thyroid pills, so I *looked* depressed with a major change in personality. I went from generally happy most of the time to paranoid and frightened with uncontrollable bouts of crying and raging. Oh it was awful. I'm terribly embarassed in fact by the way I behaved, but as soon as I got my meds, a week later I was right as rain. You can bet I never miss my magic pill now. I suspect now that a factor in the "depression" I had while dealing with the PTSD was in fact my thyroid out of whack and I would have handled it much more quickly and with a bit more ease if I'd been properly diagnosed at the time.

The hardest part though was getting out of the *habits* of having been so closed up for so long, having been so paranoid and frightened. I still struggle on occasion with it. I have found ways to make my old habits break down when they rear their ugly heads, and for that I'm grateful. Music is my number one support in that. I sing all the time! I act silly, I love being silly! Come sing with me! We can do the hokey pokey and turn ourselves around. That is, after all, what it's all about!

Happy happy,
sunny girl.

Wait statistics don't care about other statistics?

That is correct.

Accurate, in My opinion.  The data itself is only based on the numbers.

There are two groups in this poll - true subs and genuine dom(me)s, so chosen for a reason that I will not disclose - and if there are significant differences between both groups this poll will show them differences, provided sufficient appropriate people vote. Any other statistics are not relevant. I do not care whether some have been brought by the stork and others have been found in a pumpkin field - and neither does the poll care about such other statistics.

Unfortunately, this is where the premise is flawed.  You have no control over the determination of who really is genuine and true.  (Your words, not Mine, so I have nothing better to go on.)  There really wasn't a stipulation of what that entails.

Sun,   while I am not 1000% happy about the anti depressant- I take it.

I try to keep the meds on time and not skip.

Like anyone else I had hard times here or there- but it was not PSTD with me.   Much of it- I view now as my distant past.

There is a huge difference tho in checked depression- vs unchecked.

Quite. Due to their limitations, CM polls usually are fuzzy polls. The more people who vote, the better the poll is at averaging out the fuzziness, though.

Last time I looked at the results, the earlier differences between the four choices were disappearing. I wonder what they will look like when the poll gets to eighty votes.

What confidence interval are you using, and what's your population size?  This poll ain't gonna generate good statistical data.  My local profs would shake a stick at you.  If not a finger.

I have a feeling it's like your previous polls to prove how true submissives are clinically depressed.

300 data points is usually seen as an ideal minimum. (Of course a statistician often would like to have more data points.)

But statistics has been done with far smaller groups.

In my more complex fat poll it got to be interesting with about 130 votes.

In this more simple poll it might start to get interesting with around eighty votes.

I have done previous such polls? I believe you are right. I seem to vaguely recall to have done so, quite some time ago now, I think.

Where can I find them? (I have given up on the search function.)

Shows that depression is one of my continuing interests.

I sometimes do have expectations as regards the result of a poll. But I do not set out to prove something when I start a poll. I am merely gathering data. My polls always are objective, not slanted.

How the results turn out is up to the honest voters.

This is a fuzzy poll. I do not work with confidence intervals. If all choices get equal votes, I conclude that there is no detectable difference between the voters. If three choices get zero votes and the fourth choice gets all votes, I conclude that there is significant difference between them. Those two extremes form the ends of the statistical spectrum for me. What weight I attach to the results also depends on the number of voters. 4, 4, 6, 5 is a slight indication of difference. 41, 44, 63, 51 is a strong indication of significant difference, even though the proportions are nearly identical compared to the first example.

Now if this was a statistical test of such simple things as light bulbs, then one might work with confidence intervals of between 2.5 to five per cent, as is customary I seem to recall from long ago. But this is a fuzzy poll. If your profs manage to make sense of all of the fuzziness, then please present their results and confer to them my appreciation. For now I am just curious whether there is no difference, slight difference or strong difference between the choices.

How do you account for errors? Such as, a Dominant just screwing around and clicking a submissive button? Someone who has never suffered depression creating 4 accounts just to vote?

I honestly dont know much about statistics, but I am a tad bit curious if things like that had been taken into account...

I can say that statistical analysis  made me depressed in college, and I think I'm going to cry now.

*eyes spin into back of head*

No depression....just barely submissive on some days and really good at being submissive others....not sure how good i am at being true.

Hi KTM. It is a fuzzy poll and as such errors are to be expected. It presumes all voters to be honest, though. Their reward for being honest are honest results.

Hmm...ok then. Thank you.

I'm a true sub who no longer suffers from chronic, clinical, severe, suicidal depression.
SSRIs were my salvation.
