FR If this post proves one thing it's that none of you have experienced racism/bigotry nor can you argue your way out of a paper bag. You speak of how words hurt, because maybe you have never experienced real pain, that is sickening. I am not the one who needs to shut the fuck up right now. Emmet Hill was from up north, but traveled down south. He was a bit uppity, and wasn't used to how it was down there. He whistled at a White Woman. A simple thing, pretty much the usualy ole boy thing, actually complimenting her on her looks I would imagine, really. He didn't rape her or rob her, but the White boys down there lynched him anyway, wrapped his carcass up in chain and threw his dead ass in the water. Later the body was discovered. At the inquest, the coroner stated right out, in open court, on the record "Open and shut case your honor, nigger stole more chain than he could swim with". I am sick of your fucking whiney asses talking about words here as if you are so sensitive I can't even say "Boo" without you needing years of fucking therapy to get over it. This is a Man's life here. And many other lives were lost in former years, none of you have ever experienced real bigotry, because it can kill, and quite frankly I don't think any of you have the stomach for it. This based on your bantering about on this bullshit word, that some people can use and others cannot and all this shit but we are still all equal. You are full of shit, the whole PC movement is full of shit, and by and large the whole fucking world is fuill of shit. You might as well stop bringing it up. So white and black people can get along? mind boggling I was the minority when I lived overseas. My nephews all called me their "white auntie." It didn't hurt me, it's true, and I'm the only white aunt they have. Even when we moved back to the US, I was always called the "token white girl" at all the SL functions. My friends and relatives from overseas like the fact that I mix in well, white or not. Oh, but I DID experience the "minority effect" while living overseas, too. When I went out with my ex-husband, everyone who wasn't known to us thought he was my driver. When I asked how much things cost, I always got double or triple the "local price." It wasn't until I learned the language better that I understood what was going on as I listened to the merchants talk about me getting the "white price." Imagine their surprise when I started speaking their language and told them that I was really a "local" hiding in white skin. Yeah, more than a few places fell all over themselves "correcting" their faulty math, especially when my "driver" came in to ask what the problem was. There were other things here and there, but not enough for me to have a hatred for anyone over there. People do what they do. As to the PC thing, I'm on the fence. There are extremes to both sides. I don't think that racial slurs are acceptable ever. The overabundance of caution used by (more than not) white people to make sure they don't look like they're coming in from a Klan rally is a bit insane, too. I had some powerful lessons in it. I experience it here and with people saying obnoxious things to my face being jewish looks white and some horrifying experiences when i was a child that were traumatizing.

Forget what you've seen on TV about Australia and Aussies, Paul Hogan isnt typical as he is portrayed, Steve "Crikey" Irwin is far from typical and we take the piss out of him as much as I hope you all do and above all we cringe when we see the adverts that Tourism Australia broadcasts overseas. We too will fight for your rights, your freedom and your liberty and we have in Crimean war, Boer War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf 1 and Gulf 2 and Afghanistan not to mention all the United bloody Nations so called Peace keeping missions. We have been used as Canon fodder by the English for a long time and court martialed for being too effective against guerrilla forces and for not fighting a "Gentlemans" war instead preferring to meet fire with fire. So we share an awful lot in common and yet know little about each other. I know that Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Bill Engval are bloody funny but not to be taken seriously and that Jerry Seinfeld's observation although slightly amusing dont really represent a huge section of American society. By the same token, Aussies dont wrestle crocs and randomly violate wild animals by whacking their fingers up their arses, we dont ride Kangaroo's and most Australians have never seen a Roo in real life let alone ridden one because they are dangerous and will open you up like a beef carcass when pissed off and dont even get me started on Koala's which are nasty vicious little bastards that spend their entire lives pissed (Drunk) and have claws that can do real damage. So when I make a comment that you find distasteful bear in mind that Im an Aussie with Western European upbringing, I don't do political correctness but I do common sense and practical consideration. I have an "Off" sense of humour and above all im an individual. Take no offense as there is none taken nor ment, lifes just too damned short. SP

Kind of a contradiction. Oui? I suspect that the word censor may be part of the out of the box settings or perhaps a quick fix to an earlier problem they may have experienced? I know vBulletin had a handfull of factory set word bans.

Murders are fairly low compared to the US but the population is only 22 million here compared to nearly 330 million, there are a few shootings and handguns are available illegally but most violent deaths are at because of assault more than Gunshot wounds. Overall crime In 2008/2009, there was a decline in overall crime of 1.7%, as a rate per 100,000 population. The number of offences recorded in 2008/2009 increased by 0.2%. Since 2000/2001, overall crime has decreased by 25.5%, as a rate per 100,000 population. The number of recorded offences has decreased by 16.2% over the same period. The single year clearance rate for 2008/2009 is 45.8% (up 2.3 percentage points from the clearance rate recorded in 2007/2008). This is the highest single year clearance recorded since the implementation of LEAP in March 1993. Victoria Police processed a total of 169,181 alleged offenders in 2008/2009, an increase of 7.7% compared with the 157,076 processed in 2007/2008.
