The overabundance of caution used by (more than not) white people to make sure they don't look like they're coming in from a Klan rally is a bit insane, too.

People are generally only over abundantly cautious when there is an over abundance of scrutiny. Cause and effect.

My issues are as follows....
We have no freedom of speech as we have no constitutional rights to free speech since political correctness.

The Constitution simply states that "Congress shall make no law". Period. As long as the government is not restricting your speech then your constitutional rights are still intact. What this website and its spelling bot does is another matter entirely as LadyCimarron pointed out extremely well. You have to understand that CM and most other sites like it online (forums, vanilla or kinky) set the bar pretty low as to not offend the lowest common denominator or in some cases to bow to their credit processors.

I do see your point about political correctness, though. Even though it is a societal rather than governmental phenomenon it still has a chilling effect on speech and dialogue. PC isn't going anywhere soon and it has the exact opposite effect that it seeks to create. To pontificate any further on this would derail the thread and displease the mods - so I won't.

You really want to use the word as a synonym for friend or acquaintance? What a tool.

Termyn8or -> RE: It seems Im a racist (6/5/2010 1:26:03 AM)

Well I already use several different terms like that. Asshole, motherfucker, dickhead, wimp, animal as well as many others. Why should this one word be any different ?

We largely reject Political correctness because we see it as unnecessary and UnAustralian although it is slowly working its way into business and school but our "culture" still is uneasy with the whole concept.

The 'anti PC' brigade here in the UK crack me up.  They always invoke the phrase 'political correctness' whenever someone frowns at their gormless racist or anti-gay jokes.  But if I ever crack a funny that insults the church or the monarch and they get offended - Oh no.  That's not them being 'politically correct' - that's just me being rude.  Silly stuffed-up berks.  *Chuckle*

It's slightly amazing to me that "political correctness" exists as a phrase in current usage given that no one travels under that banner. Even more amazing that so many people openly despise a "concept" that basically boils down to "be polite to minorities."

edited because it's just not worth the bother.

FR

Well bred folk and the chosen are the ones who shout the most about political correctness. They are also discriminating people borne of selective breeding. Royal families are so inbred that most of them are hemophiliacs. I won't say anything about the rest who practice this. But they all have one thing in common, they shove PC down our throat while in no way shape or form practice it themselves. I hereby challenge any and all to prove me wrong.

I got more, just ask.

Most of you don't know a creative racial slur when you see it. My family would refer to Blacks as spades, or brothers. Both terms are plenty derogatory. Calling them a spade asserts that all they can do because of limited intelligence is to dig ditches. Calling them brothers infers that they have to call each other that because none of them know who their Daddy is.

Do you understand what I am saying ? You pick on one word here when many could be used to the same effecxt. This will not change until people change, those with the thin skins as well as those with their mouth running before their brain is engaged. And trying to force that kind of change never works.

Years ago I did an intercouple moderation, and part of it was a demonstration. She was pissed and on his case bad about some issues, some important, some just peeves. I was trying to explain about arguing. I told her to stand up and stood behind her and slowly and gently pushed her, physically. She of course pushed back. I used this to illustrate how this is a natural response and all the bitching and moaning wold never work, but that she could make a point, that she was able to.

Realize what I am saying here, don't make a mistake about it. I am saying that the powers that be purposely throw us together against our will, when some of us are not yet ready to actually foster this animousity. This keeps us divided and conquered. It is a ploy with which I am thoroughly familiar, and I can see it plain as day.

So now they have a list of words for you to avoid, well I have alot more words. I don't even have to use race in it, I can use anything, but I tend not to use what is not my opponent's fault, and among those issues, race is counted. It's like hitting below the belt in a manner of speaking. But when are we going to get past the manner of speaking and get to the real subject matter ?

Sometimes I think never, at this rate anyway.
