They require oil companies to drill relief wells ,.......just in case,along with the extraction wells.So if something goes wrong,they`re all ready set up to react.

Sure it costs more to extract the oil and gas.....if everything goes right.

If something goes wrong,they cost pennies on the dollar

If anything is true,it`s accidents will happen.

How much is it costing us now, not requiring relief wells?

But look at what the a-holes at BP are asking the Canucks to do.

Should we in the US require all offshore drilling to include relief wells?

The reason we require lifevests and fire extinguishers on boats is because we know shit will happen.To not have those thing would be criminal negligence,even on a private boat.

They have chutzpa don't they. Hopefully our present Gvt won't cave...its doubtful they will though, environmental impact of industrial activity is far more in the public eye here than in the States.

Also I got a kick out of the NDP being called "left-leaning"[:D]

Well,...Ms. "Drinkwater" has a point,it does costs more to use safety measures like relief wells.

My scoutmaster would constantly say,"safety is no accident".

He was correct.

It is rather amusing that CA thinks it is sovereign.  You are just one hedge fund trade away from total chaos.

While the lawmakers mean well-- in the OP- it is a horse and pony show.   Because you exist at the pleasure of the corporations, in much of the way that we do in America.

Where do you get 9 to 1 ? If you mean the 10% richest people in the US owns 90% of the wealth and thus the remaining 90% own 10% of our wealth...you would be incorrect.

It is worse now. The richest 4% own 96% of the wealth and the remaining 96% own 4% of the wealth.

Now the US is a socialist country. We have socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.

It is very possible that western civilization as we know it, is one hedge fund trade away...from total chaos. The latest figures are that total, [it] is has over $600 TRILLION exposed to hedge fund risk.

Except for that the USA will be just fine.  The US $ is the world reserve currency.    Therefore we will be the last man standing.
