"You know, this is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs where he lifts up his shirt so they can see the gun in his pants."

Simple question. Is the above statement racist or not?

Some of that would depend on who said it and in what context.

Hugely funny. I love Bill Maher, and one sentence out of the context of the monologue ..... why? Seems a bit misleading. Anyway it was said by Bill Maher during a rant against BP, and as a liberal and an Obama supporter, I thought it was fucking funny, and appropriate.

What is it with cons trying to trick the libs into admitting to something they want them to admit to?  This type of thing has happened more than once recently.

Simple question or just a simple minded question?
Some folks would walk a mile to smoke a camel dick would crawl backwards naked through a field of hard cocks just to snark at a liberal.

Not necessarily racist. Its mostly stereotyping. A white man can bust a cap in BP's ass just as well as a black one.

But it was said by a liberal in jest, and it was taken out of context.  I suppose manipulation = power  (or winning their point?) to some.

I would have to see the whole thing to decide. There is just not enough there to judge by. I can guess that it wasn't said by Rush or Beck or any of the other right wingers that people seem to just love hating. If that had been the case, someone else would have started this thread and the title would have been more along the lines of "That racist should be shot" or "This proves the teabaggers are racist" but my guess is it was a liberal and in that case we should look at the whole picture and not just the one sentence.

Of course.

Liberals are "nuanced".  Conservatives are simply racists, no other consideration need apply.

*sheesh*, get with the program, thishereboi!

I think it sounds funny and I like funny. We are so rigid and uptight about who says what where to whom. People speaking their minds more directly would be a whole lot better than all the hidden agendas going on right left and center.

Half the time the folks apparently saying the 'right thing' are so full of shit it is wafting off of them in stinky vapors and yet no one can poke a stick because it is said correctly, politely. This society is so full of lies and false presentation. We read the clues, we pretend, and we all get sick and die from the deception we feed to each other and ourselves.

Bring it on, I say. Be real for a change. I am tired of all the so-called courtesy, there is often absolutely nothing genuine behind it.

I think OP's point (to the extent that he actually had one) is that stereotyping of that sort is a bit racist?

Bill Maher also said that Obama could black it up just a little, like maybe put a shark tank in the White House. Context is important, but so is the source. Somehow, it would be less funny if Beck or Limbaugh said it, even if the "racist" accusation was debatable.

The shark tank thing is a bit out of order, really. Live And Let Die is a really crap Bond film...
