Threads that stay on topic are sacred ;-)

Threads that follow their own way are not sacred but are very 2010.

Jeffff -> RE: Some things are sacred... (6/5/2010 6:18:48 AM)

This sums it up I think.

There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!

1)This one embarrasses me:
Recently, I came across Ellen Bass' poem Vaginas and it moved me.
Not because the concept was especially original (vaginas being compared to flowers) but because for the first time (for what ever reason) I related it to my vagina *blush*.
And in that moment, it became Sacred to me.

2) There is something about Lisel Mueller's poem: What The Dog Perhaps Hears
that really moves me deeply...  and what is within that poem is Sacred to me. (I am not sure I can even tell you exactly why.)

3) Intimacy and sex (sort of)
There are moments during intimacy: physical or emotional when we are completely naked with the Other (and while this is often in the context of a romantic relationship it need not be) and too there are times during sex, well as a local poet's work puts it: "...making love is nothing if not sculpture..."
both those types of intimate moments are Sacred to me

Which brings me to:
4) Whether it is the scribblings from a child, poetry, art, literature, film music... .
Creativity shared, the gift of shared human experience in all it's varied forms.
That is Sacred and beautiful to me.

Now if you can only make Zeph understand this. Apparently Tim has corrupted her.

I have tried to do away with sacred things...

I want to study other people's sacred stuff and not have sacred things of my own

Why have you tried to do away with sacred things?

Because I find that most people get emotionally upset when others challenge their "sacred things"...I want to be open minded and open to new ideas instead of being entrenched in a possibly passe belief system...

I have sacred experiences, sacred places, but I hope to remain open to having my belief system challenged

Yes indeed coffee is sacred. That you don't like hazelnut coffee is fine, it leaves more for me, which given the apparent scarcity of it in Montreal is fine with me.

For the record, pouring any kind of creamy substance into coffee (making ice coffee is not the same thing as coffee) is a sacrilege.

It is true I like hazelnut coffee. I buy it that way, from Eight O'Clock Coffee.

It IS sacred, in a very real way. Quite deliberately, instead of floating aimlessly, my day has a basic structure, starting with reading a morning Taoist reflection and making coffee. This is not an optional activity. It is a daily observance.
