Faced with a devastating oil spill, Louisiana's governor demands ... more drilling?

http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/feature/2010/06/03/bobby_jindal_oil_drilling

"A stunning new letter by the oil-addicted governor of Louisiana gives the lie to right-wing claims that environmentalists are to blame for the BP oil disaster.

On Wednesday, Bobby Jindal, who blames everybody but himself for the environmental disaster hitting his state, wrote to President Obama and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar pleading with them to end the deep water drilling moratorium immediately.

Will those of you who are sick of oil start walking instead of driving you cars or taking a bus. ?

And stop using anything with oil products in it, like computers? Or transported with the use of oil products, or grown using fertilizer made with the use of oil, or anything harvested or processed with machinery that use oil...

So we just say "shit happens" and continue on our merry way?

Without investigating what happened and putting new safety measures in place?

Drill baby drill!

Don't we already know what happened? I thought we knew what happened 24 hours after the event.

There was something wrong with that blowout preventer thingy and subsequently it was unable to prevent blowout (whatever that is).

Then we tried some Top kill which sounds very intriguing to me, finally they have this cap thing to lower in place.

All the while it never occurred to them to feed something into the broken pipe that could be mechanically expanded or to pump something into the pipe at a greater pressure than that which the oil is flowing out. I don't know what the depth is but I presume that if they can operate machinery they can operate other mechanical devices within the broken pipe.

If you are trying to salvage the oil it rather limits your options because you don't want the pipe permanently blocked or so much top kill that you'd struggle to re-drill the area due to loose ground conditions.

What we need an inquiry about is how these underwater cameras have failed to pick up any evidence of sea monsters yet. We all know these tentacled monsters exist because we have seen them in the films.

Is it your position that bp and others like bp should continue to spill oil into the enviroment just so you can make snarky post?
Are you really that dense?

Is it your position that if one uses any petroleum products that they have no right to complain about bp playing fast and loose with the lives of all of us?

Sanity and servantforuse were clamoring to buy a toyota so they could share it when they were carpooling to go off and do nothing.

Sanity:....."Well we have to have a car. let's buy a Toyota, I hear they don't stop....It's our fault anyways, cuz we really need a car bad."

What a lovely couple you two make. Two fucking guys that think because someone needs a product or service that they are responsible if the manufacturer places you others in harms way.

Why the teabagger movement? The people elected him....They needed leadership.. For those of you that are sick of Obama why don't you move out of the country? Or keep your mouths shut....

Oh that's right, the real world doesn't work that way....Asshat.

What a couple of carpooling

I like oil companies and the products they give us. I like flying to Florida in the winter to golf. I like driving to northern Wisconsin. Accidents happen. This one was unfortunate but it will be cleaned up. Let me know when a windmill will power my car and I will go green with the other nuts.

Today but we all know it's going to be a nuclear/renewable future in the short term (no need for oil in passenger cars)

Just a few sacrifices from each of us and the world might not be so fucked up.

The environmentalists block every attemp to build any new nuclear plants in the US. No oil needed for cars ? Maybe in 20 years.

No oil for fuel and that should be the reality now especially for those in the city, if it isn't why not because the technology has been around for ages.

It's not as if electrolysis was conceived as an idea yesterday or people can't power their laptops for longer than ever before.

That's not a bad course of action. We humans have done so for tens of thousands of years. Too much dependency on a limited resource is not wise.

Whereas Bush would have invaded Mexico by now, it's their gulf after all.

psst, Bush has been out of office for quite a while now, that excuse is almost as old as the racist card.
