popeye1250 -> You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 1:48:42 PM)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100606/ap_on_re_us/us_what_recovery

And the guy in the story has an MBA and worked as an "assistant manager" at a drugstore.
Boy, I'll bet a "spill on aisle 3!" must have been a major management "challenge."
When you don't have manufacturing in this country like we used to do this is what happens. Cashiers make what, $8-$12 depending on locale?
How much were they paying the "MBA" $16 an hour? I wonder what kind of benefits package "Drugs are US!" would be handing out?
I've run into and heard of MBA's in Lowe's and Home Depot but this is the first I've heard of one working in a drugstore! If we keep heading in the current direction then five years from now you'll "need" an MBA to work as a checkout clerk in a gas and go!

Funny. Around here, you don't even need to speak English to get a job at the Jack in the Box drive-thru.

There is such a thing as being over-educated.

thornhappy -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 6:49:55 PM)

Or desperate for a job.  A lot of places wouldn't have hired him, since he's "overqualified".

It's kind of crazy that I hear "well, you should take any job you can find so you're not mooching off government unemployment pay", and when they do they're mocked for it.

Being willing to work should be praised. Better 10 dollars an hour than nothing.

Apparently you don't have to speak Spanish either, unless it was a "Name 4" you wanted large without onion.

Tazz, noone cared about the damage this global economy was causing years ago when it only affected working class people.
I find it odd from an economics standpoint that the arcitects of this monstrosity thought it would "stop" there.

tazzygirl -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 7:16:46 PM)

I find it ironic that those with a "higher" education, some of which were making damn good money, are the one's now bitterly complaining about their fallen status.

All i can say is... welcome to reality, learn to live within your means like the working poor do.

popeye1250 -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 7:23:42 PM)

Tazzy, imagine if his "boss" the drug store manager was a high school dropout! OWWWW, that would hurt!

"Voted most likely to be telling "smart guys" what to do." "Hey, he didn't graduate."

tazzygirl -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 7:28:27 PM)

Only hurts his pride. Pride doesnt fill a tummy or pay the rent. Not saying is was the MBA's fault. But i dont see the use of complaining. Its always easier to find a job when you have one.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 7:34:42 PM)

Exactly tazz, plus it's easier to hold out for a job that pays well and has good benefits when you're pulling in a salary.

Brian Mulroney and Ronald Reagan negotiated the first free trade between Canada and the United States. They are the conservative architects of this ideology.

Part of the problem as I see it is that we have much less industry in this country that needs to be managed now than we did 20 years ago yet these colleges and unis are regurgitating many more managers than they did before.
So, you have "less" demand" and more "supply."
Seems like everyone has a "title" these days and as long as it's not "associate" you're cool.

thornhappy -> RE: You never know who's working at the drugstore. (6/6/2010 7:39:05 PM)

Making damn good money doesn't mean that they weren't living within their means.

Funny, now China and India need managers because they've shipped our factories there, so maybe many of the managers here are in the wrong place.
They could go over there and work seven days a week for $25 a week and end up jumping out of windows.

Now, now Popeye we all know how wonderful this "global economy" is, and how
great it is for the American workers.
Freedom really is just another word, for nothing left to lose.

PayScale - Retail Drugstore, Pharmacy Chain Industry Salary, Average Salaries

It looks like he can make $50,000 a year as a store manager. I think with his education and work experience it's possible for him to move up rapidly to that position.

Brain, the same with McDonalds', but, "MBA's" aren't supposed to be working in drugstores.
They are "supposed" to be working in management and aquisitions, investment banking, securities exchanges etc and for $300k not $50k.
Would you expect to see your M.D. working at the car wash for "extra cash?"
