It all makes sense now! It's not that they are a bunch of incompetant fuckwads incapable of stopping an oilspill, it's that the apocalypse is coming. Yeah, sure, that's what it is. [8|]

I don't think religion itself is ridiculous.  Zealots of any ilk tend to be crazy and very often, dangerous.

Speechless at the arrogance and ignorance of the bloggers - they truly believe that the apocalypse should come to pass in the US when there's a whole world available for it to occur? OK the US is large, but on a global scale not so much and the Gulf Of Mexico is a duckpond compared to the ocean area of the planet.

But in order to understand that, they'd need to have at least a 4th-grade level grasp of both science and geography. And since neither subject is addressed in the bible, it's unlikely they would have any real familiarity with either subject.

How could the Bible say the Antichrist will be of Muslim descent when Islam didn't even exist when it was written?

I was wondering this myself. There is nothing in the Bible that states the Anti-Christ is a person at all.  The Antichrist is nothing more than a spirit (1 John 4:3) .

"Then there are the fringies who believe Obama is the anti-Christ, such as the vile Obambi.com blog.

The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal….the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything.

I have been looking for the scriptural reference for this "prophecy" for years. Christians have quoted it to me, but never seem to know exactly where it is written.

If the worlds ends, at least I won't be the only one going. I won't miss anything after I am gone.

I'm good with that..:)

Harvard:

The charter creating the corporation of Harvard College came in 1650. In the early years, the College trained many Puritan ministers.[11]  The college offered a classic academic course based on the English university model --many leaders in the colony had attended Cambridge University--but one consistent with the prevailing Puritan philosophy.

Princeton:

New Light Presbyterians founded the College of New Jersey, later Princeton University, in 1746 in order to train ministers dedicated to their views. The college was the educational and religious capital of Scotch-Irish America. In 1756, the college moved to Princeton, New Jersey.

Dartmouth:

Established in 1769 by Congregational minister Eleazar Wheelock with funds largely raised by the efforts of Native American preacher Samson Occom, the College's initial mission was to acculturate and Christianize the Native Americans.

Brown:
The charter required that the makeup of the board of thirty-six trustees include twenty-two Baptists, five Friends, four Congregationalists, and five Church of England members, and by twelve Fellows, of whom eight, including the President, should be Baptists "and the rest indifferently of any or all denominations."

Yale:

Yale traces its beginnings to "An Act for Liberty to Erect a Collegiate School," passed by the General Court of the Colony of Connecticut on October 9, 1701 in an effort to create an institution to train ministers and lay leadership for Connecticut. Soon thereafter, a group of ten Congregationalist ministers: Samuel Andrew, Thomas Buckingham, Israel Chauncy, Samuel Mather, James Noyes, James Pierpont, Abraham Pierson, Noadiah Russel, Joseph Webb and Timothy Woodbridge, all of whom were alumni of Harvard, met in the study of Reverend Samuel Russell in Branford, Connecticut, to pool their books to form the school's first library.[12]  The group, led by James Pierpont, is now known as "The Founders.

Yeah, those damn dumb Christians.  Education, science, and actually learning about the world has never been of much importance ...

Yes they are. I am not sure which I find funnier. The idiots who think Obama is the antichrist or the ones who think those idiots not only hope the end is coming but somehow are going to make it so by believing he is in the first place.

Oh and to those who lost their dictionary. Believing something will happen is not the same as hoping it will happen.

I want to see some numbers here. How many people were in the poll and where it took place? Not that I don't believe them[8|] but just saying.

Yea, back when they were claiming Clinton was the next antichrist and then again when people were claiming Bush was, they never mentioned the muslim angle. Very interesting? Maybe we should elect a women next just to see how they try to twist it then.

Just out of interest, is there anything that the fundies don't think is a herald of the apocalypso?

I doubt that a muslim woman is very likely to stand for the office.

I said they never mentioned the muslim angle when they were claiming Clinton and Bush were antichrists. Then I said we should elect a women to see how they would twist that one. Maybe if you were not so anxious to rip into one of my posts because I was the one typing it and tried to just read it, you wouldn't keep misunderstanding everything.

LadyEllen -> RE: Christian Fundamentalists Believe Oil Spill Heralds The Apocalypse « Alan Colmes Liberaland (6/7/2010 7:22:18 AM)

What may well herald the apocalypse of course is if England dont qualify for the second round of the World Cup given that thousands of fans are expected to be watching the games on big screen and the South African organisers assure us that they are expecting the English and have taken steps to ensure the beer supply is up to the challenge.

Thousands of English fans, pissed up beyond all recognition, disgruntled and looking for trouble. Now thats something of biblical proportions.

Ah yes, how I long for those simpler times when simple minds made everything easy to understand.

As I recall, in that same time period they had a few celebratory parties in Salem to let everyone know of their Christian enlightenment.

Wanna talk about the atheists who sent millions to their deaths in the Gulag, more recently?

Not unless you you want to talk about the Spanish Inquisition and the many other glories of Christianity.
