I'm much more personally engaged on local matters than I am the national. The big ticket items run to water issues (I live in a desert, and our aquifer ain't what it used to be), land use, two separate counties that like to use my area as a dumping ground for their problems, and a proposed ban on plastic grocery bags. When I go to the polls, I know who I'm voting for, and who I think needs to get fired for incompetence. The most recent item I stuck my nose into was an attempt by the state to place a particularly awful and dangerous sexual predator in a half-way house here, despite the fact that he has no connection to our community. That battle has put light on something that I suspect the state's parole organization would much prefer to keep in the shadows, so the issue might just be getting started. Oh. We also have a local mayor here who seems determined to get a 60 Minutes profile onto his resume, right above dragging his city into a fight with the ACLU. That's always entertaining.
