You are an atheist.
You do not believe in a God.
You have no proof there is no God.
It is something you believe, based on whatever reasons (ie, your logic, your reason, your common sense) that you chose to have faith in.
You have faith that your beliefs are correct.

Aside from your entire post being crap, nice try.

No Treasure, that's not what you believe. You believe that:

*The earth is flat and sits immovable upon pillars. Isaiah 40:22 KJV, 1 Samuel 2:8 KJV, Psalm 93:1 KJV
*Unicorns are real. Job 39:9-12 KJV
*You need to murder everyone in town and their livestock if a single person in the town isn't Christian. Deuteronomy 13:13-19 KJV

Do you get my point that you can't tell another poster what their position is?  If not I started a thread where this discussion will be on topic: http://www.collarchat.com/m_3263683/tm.htm so can we get back to the topic here?

I actually thought that atheism was the belief that there is no deity, and agnosticism is not believing in god but also not categorically disbelieving.

Except that Deuteronomy was written roughly 1200 years before Jesus was born.

It would seem to me that the only way to learn anything is to first admit that we don't know.  Discovery stops when we claim to have the answer and that there is no need to look any further.
You just expressed a big issue that I have with faith very well.

It was a statement that includes everything.  Being willing to say, "I don't know" is the only way to actually learn anything.

Depends who's dictionary you are using. Although what you say kind of covers it pretty sufficiently for all intents and purpose.

I didn't even know what a weak atheist was until someone completely made up the term a decade or so ago.

This is why I invented the word 'Athnostic' thereby also pleasing no one in terms of how they define themselves.

Wrong om both counts. Atheism is disbelief in a deity...agnosticism a belief in a deity unknown.

No.

Agnosticism: nothing can be known about the existence of a deity. (Nothing: as in we can't even know if one exists.)

It's a pragmatic approach that recognises human limits and stops pointless arguments.

Resorting to ridicule because you don't have anything better to offer just makes you look foolish.

No, Brainia. It makes you look like the local Democrat/liberal/Obama boosters club (ba-dum-bump).

What the fuck does a discussion on religion have to do with Democrats, liberals, or Obama?

Except to someone obsessed with denigrating all three.

You are saying that what cannot be proven untrue means that it might be possible, and you don't understand how weak an argument that is?

These are matters of faith, RML. Some have faith that there is more to the universe than we can yet comprehend, you seem to have faith in humans having this shit all figured out because we invented television and can do a little math.

No, it is just that I cannot accept things on blind faith and wonder why so many others can.

In no other area of your life would you accept things on faith.

You wouldn't loan me money without a written agreement.

You would not buy a house without knowing the full terms of the transaction.

Yet we are told that we must just believe when it comes to spiritual matters.

Why?

Seeing as I've started a thread to discuss the topic that we've been talking about for several pages now, could you respond to me there, that way we'd actually be on topic.

Which is an absolute contradiction.

Believers, as yourself, claim you do know.

That goes for the rest of the old testament, though: isn't a lot of it older still? (I think there's a version of Ecclesiastes found among the Dead Sea Scrolls that's at least a thousand years earlier.)

Believer?  Umm.... What is it you think I have claimed to know that would make me a "believer" in some sort of group you call Believers?  I'm not familiar with whoever that is and I can assure you I don't belong to any group or organization of that name.  Heck, I don't belong to any group or organization at all.

I'm so very, very sorry.  See, I'm old and feeble of mind and I'm sure if I claimed to have absolute knowledge of what happens after we die, I have forgotten it.  I'm sure you will be able to post every instance where I have made such a claim.  Thank you for your kind attention.

I think he is referring to your numerous previous claims of belief in a personal God. That would make you a deist, one who believes in God (doesn't really matter which one).

ETA, Being a believer does not require affiliation with any particular group or organization.

Yet when I call on you to validate one of your constant bullshit assertions you find yourself wanting...or better yet you offer up ....well everyone knows that such and such is so....but no validation just opinion.

I doubt seriously that I've ever offered up anything like "well everyone knows that such and such is so".  Usually I just ignore you.

Hey!  That may be why you never get your answer.

You ignore me when you are unable to validate your position.
You were unable to validate the "20-50 million murders by stalin etc. Your response was simply "everyone knows that yadda yadda yadda...

RML, I wouldn't loan you money under any circumstances. It was a tremendous act of faith when I bought my house, faith that we are going to be able to make the payment every month, at least until Obamaflation kicks in and chops it down to insignificance.

Faith sometimes plays a great role in my life, even if I'm completely ok with having no concrete idea of what I'm putting that faith in. I have hitchhiked up and down the west coast, with faith that I wouldn't get in a car with a John Wayne Gacy type. I got married after 20 years of relationships that generally ended badly. I walked away from a line of work where I had spent most of my working life to do something I had never done before. At one point, I even took the 'lily' approach to daily living, and it was an amazing and mighty odd experience.

To have faith, to make a leap of it, to walk in it, takes some courage. What is it that you are afraid of RML?

Rich, you are confusing calculated risk with blind faith. Not the same thing.

Saying "calculated risk" implies that I had it calculated, Brainia. I'm speaking of doing it anyway, even when the rational mind says no, and getting away with it.

If you choose to make decisions without thinking or considering the consequences, then I completely understand your need for faith. Eventually, you'll need forgiveness and/or redemption. Carry on.
