true..and forgive the semantics, but a belief in God is also a faith (speaking as one who has faith but not religion).

I have been following this thread and find it depressing. My comment may seem to come out of left field, but atheism is a belief in the same way faith and religion are beliefs. To each their own and not unto others to criticize.

No it is not.

Show me God. You can't so I don't believe.

Annnnnd here we go. You have just proven my point.

My faith is my belief. I do not have to prove or disprove it to you or anyone else.

My personal belief is not yours to criticize.

If your personal belief is to not believe, fine. I cannot nor will not say a word against it. But that lil prayer you have for a sig line informs me you are full of shit and ready to stir.

It doesn't surprise me that you obviously don't understand how this works.....You post your beliefs they are open to be criticized. You keep them to yourself and they are off the table.

Got it?

You really need to stop falling down. Or Maybe you should start wearing a football helmet? The Surgeon general of CM has determined that one more concussion and you will no longer be allowed to participate.

Criticize away...beliefs are personal and if they are rocked by someones funky white ass on the forums...they were not beliefs to begin with, were they?

As to my falling...me thinks yer get well card was lost in the mail.[:)]

So now we are going to have some race war over this, kinda like "do you prefer the black god or the white one"...kinda like the black Jesus debate

domiguy -> RE: Why do people think it's ok to strawman an atheist? (6/21/2010 10:20:19 AM)

Firm you do have two separate criteria when you consider the amount of proof you needed to believe in God but demand much more to support your other beliefs.

You know that this is a fact. You are kind of a shit for not at least acknowledging it.

Here is the thing, saying "I disbelieve in God" is a different statement than "I am 100% certain there is no god and I believe there is no god"... it is not just semantics... these are entirely different statements

Why are beliefs stagnant? There was a time that I did not support the idea that people should own hand guns. I listened, did research and now I think that a responsible person has every right to possess one.

That you are not capable of questioning your own personal beliefs says less about you and your ability to engage a discussion with any type of an open mind.

It is not surprising. So many things tend to allude you.

Now show me a picture of God.

Either that's an electron cloud or it's a demonstration of what face sitting looks like through the perspective of someone wearing night vision equipment. B first then A. I don't know what those at the Kharkov Institute get up to.

The foundation for words are based upon what i have read by a man who has studied and written on that very topic for over 15 years.

If you do not wish to understand my thought processes when its presented to you...... you come across as being merely argumentative.

quote:

This leads to the concluesion that atheists have faith because your 'atheist' was a generalistic example (There is no indication that the atheist concerned in your sentance is factual).

Tell me, without proof one way or the other, what would you call it?

Its been instsited you cant use the word.. belief.

Its been insisted you cant use the word... faith.

Its been instsited you can only use scientific methodology. Which begins with an idea, problem or a question.. almost like a puzzle to solve.

In the previous example i used about the Obstetrician, he saw an increase in the number of child bed fevers among those delivered to Physicians as opposed to the number of midwives. At that point, the question began... why? Why are their numbers lower?

Armed with that question, and a desire to discover why, he set out to determine why these two groups had a vastly different outcome. His belief that he would discover the difference and be able to change the outcome was his driving force, long before he discovered what it was that caused the problem. Its at this point that even science has a belief that is unfounded.

i swear you must practice horses-assism in the mirror. No one is that gifted naturally. No one.

Why do you say i do not question my own beliefs, and why do you care if i do or do not?

This is what you are not getting...they are none of your business. This was my original statement....when it comes to the beliefs of others...live and let live and if you argue with that you should be shot on sight.

*God...hug George Carlin for me...i miss him!!*
