Why even have one then.

If he is as useless as Jindal that is a very good question.

Oh I think you know just what I mean....Play stupid if you want to.

You guys argue about some of the silliest shit..It isn't even about the topics per-say but more about your personal views of each other I think and how you can make the other one look bad..Politics are just another way of attacking one another lol.

Why the stance of safety is dumb in this case and I'll leave you to the political bickering and positioning.
(My view short and sweet)

We take risk all the time and we also "shirk" the risk for the greater good at times and to me that's what makes us better people. What most of you seem to be doing is looking at the smaller picture..oil spill...very bad for EVERYONE...Just can't fathom how people with any good sense about them would argue over that..especially arguing on political positions.

Now back to blaming each others parties. Enjoy.

No,  sorry Willbeur, you don't get to change the subject.

As I've posted in links before, Jindal has been a vocal opponent of federal intervention for any reason.

Until this.

And now he is crying why there is not more federal help.

It's per se, not per-say.

Which I think sums things up about this conversation, per-say.

You are not there.
You are not in the coast guard.
You know only two of the reasons for the barges being held in port.
Do you really think that the lack of a life jacket and a fire extinguisher, which could have been purchased at any hardware store in less than an hour, is the only reason?
The hold up was only for about 24 hours.
Yet with all of your accumulated ignorance you want to "damn the torpedos, full speed ahead".
It is moronic attitudes like yours which gets people killed.
Makes me happy that more experienced hands are at the helm on this one.

How in the world did this become a D vs R issue?

I doubt the oil takes that into consideration.  As it slops onto the beach.

Gee gosh golly Pahunk, I don't know.

Do you think it might be because your link was an article featuring a Republican governor criticizing the response of a Democratic Presidential administration?

Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard

Ok.... I read this thread title and here is all that comes to my mind:

Rudimentary ships maintaining oral aficionados boarded by U.S. sailors…

More puerile bullshit...You have no response to my statement so you post up nonsense.
You do not have a clue as to how to solve the problem but you feel competent to challange those who do.
You have no clue as to what makes a vessel sea worthy. The coast guard does know what it requires for a vessel to be seaworthy but you want them to ignore the seaworthiness of a vessel, put lives at risk and endanger the mission. Do you have a clue as to how foolish that is?

If it had been a democrat doing the criticizing, would you agree with him then?

And hunky it became a d vs r thing when it was posted on this forum. There are some members of CM who can't see anything any other way.

so then the question is- on the 24 hour delay- was it known up front that this is protocol?

By "protocol" do you mean ships have to pass a safety inspection?  Then yes the ships owners and captain would have known.

People have made light of the delay because of "fire extinguishers"  However fire on any size vessels is a huge ass problem and is compounded by the fact they would be in water  that has millions of gallons of oil in it.  For those of you who do not think oil burns in water, then I wonder how BP is burning off the oil in places.

The last thing the Coast Guard needs is to to save some ship when it is easy enough to prevent.

I also find it odd, that people say it was a waste of time to stop the ship for safety reason, when if BP had followed their own safety rules then this may never had happened.

Sine when does the coast guard do inspections?

Why was it not known the delay would be 24 hours?   That is not how it was understood.

The really is starting to become Katrina.

As I understand it the USCG is responsible for:

Maritime Security
Maritime Safety
The Coast Guard is responsible for inspecting vessels that are registered in the United States or are foreign ships in U.S. waters.
