So vacation time has begun.

I'm curious if any of you are planning on taking an adventure vacation and travelling. And if so, where? But more importantly, why?

And in the unfortunate case that a trip isn't in the cards this year, where do you dream of going? Again, more importantly, why? :-)

Israel in November. Mother's 70th birthday....so me and my Sister decided to take her to Israel....as she's religious and loves that sort of thing....she's been before and has always wanted to go back. I'm looking forward to it for the historical aspect and apparently it's a beautiful country. We're staying in Tel Aviv and hiring a car for a drive around the country.......

lol... Oh sheesh.  Firm and I just got back from DC earlier this week... we leave for Montreal on the 28th for a week... some time between July 4th and July 15th there will most likely be a trip to Dallas (still in the planning stages)... and then we're off to Kansas City in mid July for my class reunion.  There'll be further business trips to KC and Dallas after that, but thankfully nothing concrete at this time.

Most of the above trips are work related, but Firm and I usually extend our work trips to include three or four days just for us.  Why waste a perfectly good plane ticket and hotel, yanno?

Firm and I typically host a family vacation trip in the summer, but this year I'd wanted us to go somewhere... just the two of us.  A cruise maybe or somewhere tropical.  I'm not sure we'll have time for that this year, though.  But I'm thinking maybe Christmas in Hawaii.

I'd honestly love another week or so in DC.  We barely had any time last week with just a couple of days to try to hit the main attractions.  I'd like a couple of weeks to spend browsing the Smithsonians alone!

Just got back here, too.  Well, several days ago, but I haven't accomplished crap since returning.  LOL.

Cross country trip to GA.  Family, friends, and even lifestyle.  I had a blast, but I think we'll be putting off the next long trip for a bit.  Of course, there are always places that I want to go.  I just don't have the cool million sitting in the bank to fund it all.

Lately, I'm very intrigued with the idea of going to London.  (This is the pipe dream one.)  I really do want to see what the scene is like there.  I'd do the normal sight-seeing stuff as well, but there are a number of people that I would like to meet face to face if I got the chance.

I am not planning any trip.

I have no urge to go much of anywhere.   Especially during the summer.

I just got back from Vacation myself... I was out in South Dakota to visit some family, we went over to the Black Hills for a couple days, saw the Badlands, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc... it was a pretty decent trip.

Generally I don't do much in the way of traveling though, so, fnord.

A meeting with clients for a couple of those days, but we thought we take some extra time to check out the jazz festival and had hoped to see the Carifete parade... though I understand that has been canceled this year.

Of course we'll be there for Canada Day but I'm not quite sure of the festivities planned in Montreal.  But to be honest, Firm and I aren't big partiers nor do we find big, loud crowds fun.  I suspect we'll end up just trying to enjoy more quiet type pursuits... visiting the old city centre to take in the history and architecture.  The Pointe-à-Callière holds particular interest for me, if we have time.

If my funds recover, I am wanting a short trip to Grenada in Spain, principally to view the much vaunted Alhambra and other Moorish remnants. A short trip, a few days, but I have not been out of the country for a few years, it would be nice to see something different.

If funds did allow, which I severely doubt, Morocco would be the place of choice as I have always been sort of interested in North Africa after reading many novels and other books about the region in the past, so much so the place sticks in my mind as a place to go some day.

But the dream vacation is India, but I want to spend a month or so there to attempt to absorb the place.

Hello Angelika,
I'm going to the Phillipines to speak at conference. I'm taking an extra week or so to travel and to look around. I'm also going to the southern part of Korea to visit a "slow village" where they live in a pre-industrial manner and you can experience traditional methods of weaving, cooking, living. I'm very interested in that. One of my co-workers is going with me.

Also, I'm looking for a place to go for a week that is quiet and I can be alone to write. And then.... back to the old grind stone!

best,
sunshine

As it looks like I am going for 3-3.5 weeks to Dallas in September/October (half the time of it in each month to have enough time left in the remaining weeks to earn enough to live in each month...sadly I can't go earlier due to finances and also due to my cat expecting her litter beginning of july...therefore those little critters will have to be raised before I am travelling again )

Wasn't really on my agenda originally but I am going to meet a Poly Dom for a change...to give him the chance to "increase my knowledge."

Over xmas and new year I would like to go somewhere warm as well but as I am finishing uni at the moment I can't plan that far ahead at the moment because if I would take on work in my graduate job then a potential employer might interfere in such plans (as currently I am doing reliefwork and therefore can take off whenever I want to.)

Apart from that I am starting my visa process's in December/January and should better get some savings onto my account Nevertheless...I am dreaming of time at a beach over xmas and new year

I am trying to plan a vacation for some time in August which is the earliest I can possibly get away from work. My boss is refusing me vacation time anytime before that. Blah...

But I also have to wait to get all the work finished on my house and get it up for sale. Once that happens I'm hoping to be able to go to Costa Rica. I've never been out of the U.S. and I've always wanted to go there and now that my daughter is old enough to be on her own, I'm restarting my life and doing what I wanna do for a change...well unless Master says differentlly lol.

That's exactly the right term, thank you. All that pent up "notgonnakillmybossesnonononouhuh" means the need for much sleep.

LadyAngelika,

What a wonderful thread!   I won't be going on vacation this year, which is fine because I had a great one last summer.  I will be adjusting my work hours, though, to allow for more down time.

If I was planning a trip, it would be the France.  Why?  Food and wine, of course!  It has been a dream of mine to spend a few months completely immersed in the culture and be able to explore and "live as if".

That's how I like to experience a place...setting up roots for a period of time and just exploring the area.

I am going back home to Perth next month for just over a week for my dad's 80th and will get to catch up with lots of rellies who are flying in from various parts of the world

I am hoping to get to Shanghai some time in the next 12 months to see a school friend who is living there and to see the pandas

Speaking of which I need to plan a quick trip to see angel and the pandas over there as well

And I want to work out when I can get back to the US and Canada again as well.

I will have about 3 weeks of leave racked up but it will be quite difficult to take any extended leave in my new role from the end of July
