I have come to appreciate people and their intricate personalities when I know them in person.
When I read,"I am a smart ass/brat" or I read something sarcastic, I am grated the wrong way, especially if the person is a submissive. 

Maybe I feel the way I do because I take things sensitively or am just so based submissive to the core of my nature that I cannot even think of deliberately being either of these.  A smart ass/brat or sarcastic.  Neither of these have beauty in them. IMHO

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and maybe a smart ass/ brat or sarcastic submissive finds and even thicker headed smart ass sarcastic dom/me.

What is attractive about being a brat/smart ass?
What is attractive about sarcasm?

I was reading about a totally different subject when a line popped out at me:  There might be two “laws” we can choose to live by ~~ the law which says “I can find freedom and fullness of life if I keep the rules” or the law which says “I can find freedom and fullness of life if I break the rules." (I took the liberty to take a few words out that spoke of the other topic.)

So why does a smart ass/brat break rules?
I cannot imagine that freedom in submission is found in breaking rules, always being punished and I believe that it might lead to deliberate disobedience.

Are there those smart ass/brats who only want the attention?
Are there smart ass/brats whose dominants take pride in and find their manner of speech delightful if they freely speak in this manner?

I am not just writing about online banter in chat rooms or on forum boards but in public as well.

Are there any out there who might enlighten me on why being a smart ass/brat or sarcastic (mileages vary on the sarcastic barometer) is beautiful in a submissive?

I think it could be a case of 'strength requiring strength'.

For years, the label 'doormat' was negatively used as someone who shows no spirit, is robotic in their goings-on. For simplicity sake (I'm shortcutting here), isn't 'obedience' the same thing?

If someone is a brat, but submissive, they might choose a partner based upon their capability of bringing out the submissive side and knowing how to suppress the bratty side. I suppose it's too much to say that his career would have been a failure without it, but 'Taming of the Shrew' needed to be written to provide evidence. If their supposedly-dominant partner cannot bring out those things, and the brattiness remains, then the strength of the bratty sub is not met with sufficient strength from the dominant side.

Besides, gags needed a place in this world and there's no better place for a gag than a brat.

I don't care for smart asses. There's a fine line IMO as far as being a smart ass and being funny. I guess it's a subjective matter.

An adult acting like a brat is something I dislike very much. If I were the violent type, I'd smack the shit right outta them. [:)]

Thicker headed? Let me ask you... why do you judge so harshly what you do not understand? Is that "submissive nature" you claim to have so "one way" that you allow no room for differences?

Because you cannot imagine it doesnt make it wrong. I cant imagine being a human toilet for someone, yet there are people who do and are happy to do so.

As you said yourself, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some enjoy a submissive who is shy, demure and sweet. Some enjoy a submissive who is loud, outspoken and a handful.

Then there are varying degrees inbetween.

My suggestion, Op? Be happy with who you are and dont sweat the small stuff. After all, sometimes a banana is just a banana. Its no skin off your nose how they act.

I find that most people living real life relationships in a real life world tend to allow people real life emotions and actions.

ah yes, AND if one gets to know more about the reason behind "real life emotions and actions", one understands better.

I do have a friend who is a smart ass and brat to her husband.  But as I said, I know and appreciate her.

Well first, I guess I'd have to ask your definition of a brat.
And then I'd explain that there are many relationships and many relationship dynamics. What works for you may not work for others.
I used to be painfully shy, quiet and demure, in fact I secretly am now! *lol* But no one who knows me would probably guess that.
I am now playful, talkative, funny (at least to me!) and engaged. I also identify as a submissive. Do any of those traits cancel out the other(s)?
I can also behave as a "brat". It's generally a playful act, but since I was a bit spoiled growing up, sometimes I guess, I am a brat. I try not to really be one, but, I'm a person, and have many facets that come out under different circumstances.
I'm a person first and a submissive second.

When you come across as caustic and extremely judgemental, people will take it as such.

As far as defending myself... you know nothing about me, again proving your judgemental attitude. This is what you call ... take things sensitively or am just so based submissive to the core of my nature that I cannot even think of deliberately being either of these

I consider myself a relatively bratty sub.  For my Sir and I...that means I am playful, and give him, within the bonds of play, an excuse to "punish" me.  While I know many find the concept of play punishment to be silly or idiotic, we enjoy it.
For example, I may disregard an order, when I sense he is in the mood for me to do so.  I will go wide-eyed, and shake my head, and maybe giggle.  This always leads to rough and tumble fun time.
It's about knowing when it is and when it is not acceptable.  If I act bratty, and he calls me on it and tells me he is not in the mood, I change, and do what he asked.  I could not be with a dominant that I could not have this sense of playfulness around.  I enjoy being physically overtaken, and he enjoys physically forcing my submission at times.  It's just our way.

Being playful is fine, but being a brat is disrespectful. It all depends on how folks define the two.

Maybe but I would hazard a guess as to other reasons. You seem to feel you are so "submissive to the core" that you cannot imagine being a smart ass or sarcastic yet a few posts later why, there you go, indeed being both. Wow, you were actually able to do it! Congrats, see it IS imaginable and even doable with just a tiny amount of effort[8|]

Being a brat and being sarcastic are so different to me that I never associate one with the other. Sarcasm is a most appreciated behavior to me and one my very sarcastic Master appreciates in me as well. I'm not so "submissive to the core" that I can't act naturally and be pleasing to Him in this way.

You seem to equate sarcasm with breaking rules and wanting attention. I think you're trying to wrap a lot of different behaviors that don't appeal to you in one big bundle and dismiss them as being behaviors "real subs" such as yourself shouldn't exhibit. You just simply cannot "imagine" why anyone would want to be a way that you aren't. I don't know what to say to that. Imagine it 'cuz there are as many types of people as there are people. I like sarcasm. I think it shows a quick wit and and engaging mind. Now, brattiness, not so much, unless it is in the context of playfulness. Otherwise it is just immature self-centric behavior.

I can be a complete smart ass and totally sarcastic.... does this make me less "submissive"? don't know, don't care. I am into being "me", not being someone else. I do not use my smart assed aspect of my personality to be disrespectful, it is limited by the tolerance of the man in my life. If the man in my life wasn't entertained by my smart assed ways and my sarcasticness, well he and I would not be a good match....

I like to please my partner. I would be distraught if I hurt my partner's feelings with my sarcastic wit and my dry humor, and I try to feel out where that line is. I am not mean spirited about it...


Luckily for me, the dominant men in my life love my wit, and that was why they both kept me around for a year or longer....

Oh, btw, I don't get off on being "punished" or d"disobeying" or pushing buttons to get attention... perhaps we have different definitions about what smart assed and sarcastic even means...
