ORIGINAL: kdsub Give us a break NG...we don't get a chance to brag about US soccer very often...soon enough we will feel the bite of defeat but until then HA HA we kicked your butts. Butch Like I have said before, the American sense of patriotism will be good in the sport of football, the players playing under the notion they are fighting in the name of America, so I can believe what performance the American players put in is genuine and wholehearted. Wheras England on the other hand consists largely of overpaid prima donna celebrity players who even some of the more hardened supporters I know have sadly admitted the heart is not in the game anymore with Englands rather sad performance in South Africa and the reason they believe is because of the pay award win or lose. If say by some flook England won, what will the players gain, for they already have money beyond their wildest dreams, and celebrity status, they already have that, which I suspect they could do with less of due to the impact on their private lives. England, what is that except a place one happens to be born in or where one gets paid to be. How many would quite happily ditch England in pursuit of more money I wonder. Funny thing, A, we had a similar situation with our Olympics basketball team and yet being millionaire$$ did not get in the way of high spirited, enthusiastic desire to win. Those guys busted their asses and played as a team. And win they did. I wonder what the difference is. Exactly, what is the difference, why does the US possess a largely patriotic people, and England not ? Well, at one time patriotism was discouraged because someone in power felt a pride in England and flying our flag to show our pride might upset the immigrants, and with that the BNP took the flag so just showing the thing people thought one was racist. England has no parliament, whereas Scotland, Ireland and Wales has, and England has no official anthem to sung at sporting events, although I believe an MP has recently suggested the unofficial anthem '' Jeruslem '' by William Blake be made official. Our patron saint St George was a foreigner and St Georges day just passes by without any interest, quite unlike St Patrick's day, St David's day and St. Andrews day. The difference between England and the rest of the kingdom is the rest of the kingdom were oppressed by the English through history and the oppressed built a nationalism which gives rise to their patriotism, something from ancient times that lasts till this day. The English have no nationalism for they were the oppressors except that the lower English were oppressed by the higher English, the rulers conquered their own people first before moving onto other lands. As an aside, could this be why UK citizens generally distrust their politicians and those in power whereas the US generally trust their lot. But yes, what is it, why have the English become unpatriotic Oh a flag that flies a lot around here
