I just ask for RL references if there experianced.
But i tend to also stick with locals, though I'd respond to an out of state person I would probably not initiate contact.
However if your active in the local community then people will know at least something about you that can be searched and verified.
My kid brother googled me and came up some interesting stuff :)

I disagree: as with everything it depends on the people. I may not have the most experience in the world, but I enjoy expressing myself through writing. I met a wonderful dominant on here and had the most wonderfully intense experience with him online, there was no question of us being able to meet, it simply wasn't possible, but our minds met for an evening and it was wonderful. We both came away happy, and it was worth it.
