Neither country is perfect and I suppose the grass is always greener on someone else's lawn.

FTA:
Almost one-third (30 per cent) of Americans would choose Canada too, according to the poll results.

OTTAWA - A majority of people from around the world would move to Canada if presented with the opportunity, according to a survey out Tuesday.

The online survey of over 18,000 people in 24 countries, conducted by Ipsos Reid, showed that 53 per cent of people — including 77 per cent of respondents from China and 68 per cent from India — would like to live in Canada, if they could.

"If they could"?  Not like the country's too crowded for them...

With global warming winter is not so bad now, even in the Arctic all the ice is melting.

I'd do it in a heartbeat, and never look back.

Most Americans would qualify for Canada permanent residency. Point system is rather relaxed. It just takes 2 to 3 years waiting.

I've wintered here more than once but I also wintered in MPLS that was something for sure.

Come north if you are hip!

Why?

-- it is tho my favorite country outside of the US.

I see no reason to leave the US.  Even if we run into hard times.

you know it isn't one that that I can just point to. Its the people......I think. And the shared sense of taking care of everyone. They aren't afraid to do that and say that they do it.  Its like mixing the US and Europe together and coming out with the best parts......I am an American but I do love Canada

I agree.  The people there are lovely.   As is the country itself.

domyngblk come on up...

See I lived in Manhatttan, and I found there to be an amazing sense of community there. I really found it to be a great and stable environment of folks giving a shit and helping each other out.

Yup, Manhattan.

Canadians can be nice but I wouldnt go as far to say we take care of each other any more than folks do in the usa, imo.

Canada used to be my preference following completing my degree (as I won't stay in the UK and as at home my job isn't really available). I know that I do qualify with my degree for the skilled worker scheme but by now I prefer New Zealand

I'm already working on going to Nova Scotia.  The plans and wheels are in motion.  I just wish they'd move faster.  The sooner I'm there, the better.  And I have wintered there.  It's not that bad, unless you're in like Whitehorse or north...  Well, okay, Manitoba kind of sucks, but that's just because it's so flat and boring.  The people are still as awesome as everywhere else in Canadialand.

As far as the skilled worker list, no problem on that, and the eligibility test, I blew through that with an awesome score.  Hell, I even memorized the national anthem already... the english version, that is.  What's the deal with changing it to half french all of a sudden, by the way?

They really are!  Wonderful people.  Even if they tend to say strange things like "serviette" instead of "napkin", or "Kraft dinner" instead of "Mac and cheese", and use the "washroom".

Then again, I say Kraft Dinner too, and spell with an extraneous "u" in many words.  I blame them though, after spending so much time in Ottawa.

They brainwashed me!  Damned evil Canadians!  It's a plot to take over the world!  The lure you in with their friendliness, decent beer, back bacon and poutine.  The next thing you know, you're drunk on screech, having sex in a canoe and having their evil health care system pull the resulting splinter out of your ass before going to Tim Hortons!
