It's not that unheard of to be sitting in an ER for that long here. The big difference is that you'll owe a couple of grand when you leave.

If it was broken you'd probably not be able to walk or rotate it.

Last time I twisted my ankle like that. I had this massive lump the size of an egg sticking out of it. I waited all day just to be told 'Keep it raised and here are some pills to reduce the pain and swelling.' Actually they didn't give me the pills they put me in another two hour pharmacy queue for that.

I bet you £1 they won't give you an x-ray.

5 to 6 hours wait in the ER ? Do you live in Canada ? If I were you I would get it taken care of before Obama care starts. It might be an even longer wait.

Oh quit, sernavt. This isnt the political boards and your not scoring points. ER's operate on the ABC system... airway, breathing circulation. Those with altered states in any of those three take precedence no matter what. A gun shot victim, car accident, heart attack.... all those and more would take precedence over a swollen foot.

She may have a wait, she may go straight in. It has nothing to do with politics.

I agree.

The trouble is too many use the ER for what should be a DR visit.

We could tho have more immediate care centers.  Walk ins type of DRs.

Waits here have increased.

Here, I'd go to the Evil Capitalist (TM) QuickCare up the street, be out in about half an hour and be charged a mere $20 co-pay.

I wouldn't avoid going in because of how terrible the services are, as this guy in Britain did.

Thank you Sanity.

Op, im sorry i automatically thought you were female, I didnt look. The more you walk around on that foot, the more damage you could be causing.

Keep us updated on what happened, please.

Good luck that it will only be 5 hours...and not...well...10+ instead

Thanks PTB . I was lucky, it only took 2 hours !

I have a hairline fracture of the fibular, and I'm thinking my ligaments and tendons are messy too. I doesn't help that I've been hobbling around on it. So now its time to look after it.

I've just finished a cbt harness, that passed a few minutes. I dont know how I'm going to endure this inactivity for X weeks

Luckily I have plenty of food in the house.

We pay upfront through taxation. Its called National Insurance. It works fine really, but you will experience abuse as we do when yours comes in. Expect aliens arriving for freebies. The only way to stop it seems to be id cards, we dont have them yet

The service is fantastic really, it is just the waiting around I can't handle. I dont see how they sometimes get it so wrong. I have needed A&E in the Far East twice, and from a waiting point of view it was far superior to the carry on in Blighty.

Several years ago, I tried to open an email account with yahoo. I tried with :

Joe-Public@ then J-public, then Joe+Public@, then, Joe@, I went through every possible combination, and more besides. I could hardly believe that so many people had my name.

In the end, I tried the dumbest thing I could think of, and it worked just fine –splorff@, and bingo, I had an account. I still use it, but only as a trash collector. So now you know

The foot is not OK, its busted ! I'm bored to death sat here. If only a pervy latex nurse would visit, but they never do when you realy need them too.

Ps
Of course, my real name is not Joe Public

I got a hot Oriental lady doctor fondling my foot, then a long hobble to The Minors Waiting Room, then another hobble to the x ray dept. She was such a sweetie. A student, under supervision of course. Barely nineteen. She really should do something about those eyebrows. Then the long hobble back to minors, and joyfully, as luck would have, the same Oriental hottie. Then the bad news, and the big moon boot. The worst of it was the nurse who put the thing on. She seemed to relish explaining how tightly it must be fitted. then set about her task mercilessly. I refused to whimper, she was really not my type.

Ok- but no pills?  Shots? creams?

Steroids?   Anti-biotics?   Did they find any infection?
