What about this ? I did it a few days ago. It no longer hurts, and I can stand on it. There is no tingling. I dont want to visit hospital unnecessarily. Its a 4-5 hour wait, and then there is the journey there and back. Is it broken do you think ?

you need an x-ray.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/23/2010 1:14:10 PM)

Sugar, unless you go see a doctor, nurses do not have the ability and ethics to say yea on nay.

You could always call ahead to check the status of the ER.

Get an appointment to see a DR.   Tell them it is swollen badly. I would try for one tomorrow morning- tell then you are worried it is infected.

If gang green sets in - you risk an amputation.

tazzygirl -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/23/2010 9:45:46 PM)

I am a nurse. But i wont diagnose your condition. I will say this... if that were my foot, or the foot of anyone i knew, i would be dragging them to the local ER and quickly. The bruising and swelling alone would have me scared.

WyldHrt -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 12:00:39 AM)

I am not a nurse, but I will tell you exactly what that looks like from the pic, because I did it to myself once.
Please note that I am not diagnosing your condition. I am not qualified to do so.

One night, I took a bad step backing down a flight of metal stairs, came down flat on my left ankle, and dislocated it, tearing the ligaments in the process. The pain and shock made me yank my foot up, which relocated the ankle. Looking at your pic, the bruising under the ankle, swelling, and bruises between the toes all look the same. Like you, I had little pain relative to the extensive swelling and bruising.

Get your butt and that foot to a doctor ASAP. I didn't, and to this day have issues with instability in my left ankle. I'm hella lucky that I did not lose my foot.

NormalOutside -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 12:22:31 AM)

OP: Yes, and you do need to get it looked at. Your foot looks like that, and your concern is that it's inconvenient to see a doctor!? :-O

splorff -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 2:27:23 AM)

Good morning all. Just finishing my morning cup of tea, then I'm off to the A&E for the 5 hour wait. And you guys over the pond want a British type National Health Service ?

PeanutTigerinBox -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 2:58:51 AM)

Good luck that it will only be 5 hours...and not...well...10+ instead [8|]

my ankles looked like that when I was pregnant[8|]

lapgirl -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 3:10:16 AM)

What you really need is an xray... its about the only way to tell (without obvioius deformity) if its broken or badly sprained. Either way it needs rest, ice, elevation and proper diagnosis. And i am a nurse, and that info is just basic first aid. Good luck!

servantforuse -> RE: Are you a nurse ? (6/24/2010 3:36:37 AM)

5 to 6 hours wait in the ER ? Do you live in Canada ? If I were you I would get it taken care of before Obama care starts. It might be an even longer wait.
