One place I worked we had lay offs coming.  I said "it would have to be done fairly".    I think that did help.  It still came- but not as brutal, IMO then had I said nothing.

They assumed - that since I had a room mate- that I did not need to money.   I did need the money.

So they first cut hours.  But I was able to collect partial unemployment.   while still paying in for later.  when later came- I was glad to have had my quarters paid in.

Yep, don't wait until the wall, writing and all, falls on you. It is easier to find a job while you still have one. You also have more leverage in negotiating salary and benefits if you are not seeking employment as a terminated/laid off individual.

You don't work for Boeing do you? LOL Sounds like something they'd go. I agree with everyone else, sounds like the writing is on the wall.

UPDATE:     Well the Chief Operating Officer came and went and we were told nothing about why he was there in the first place,   As I Expected   HOWEVER, My cubicle neighbor over heard two of his Entourage talking and over heard that the office in Wilmington NC was to be closed by the end of the year.   We (I mean my So-called "TEAM") talked to a Supervisor in one of the satellite offices in a smaller city and she was told by her management that she has to make 7% sales because My office is making 10% sales. We explained to her that she was being lied to, (They are wanting us to make 4%). After we told her all of the information we had, it was like a light came on in her head and she said "Damn why can't they stop lying to us and tell us the truth"   there are a few more things but I think those are just job specfic

Well, even if they aren't planning on layoffs, it sounds like this isn't such a good place to work.  I agree with the advice to start looking now.  I was just reading an article on yahoo this week that said a lot of employers don't consider people who are currently unemployed...they assume they were let go for poor performance.  Best to find something else and leave on your terms, not theirs.  I wish you the best.
