Where did I claim to stop unemployment?  It's the extension after extension after extension that needs to be addressed.  Do we just let people stay on unemployment benefits until they find "the right" job?  How long should the benefits be for?  No limit?  That's what I was addressing and what the topic in the OP is about.

Has the Republican who suggested this solution explained how they can get any employer to pay an American citizen more than a wetback to do the same job? That could well be as big a part of the problem as the unemployed fancying a living wage, n'est pas?

I'm not sure any Republican suggested that unemployment be completely stopped.

Sounds like a straw man argument to me.

Quote me please.  I've looked and there is nothing about doing away with the unemployment program: just how long it should be.

The Rebublican's have become the party of NO. It is the failed polices of the 8 years we had of Bush that has laned us in this mess We as voters need to rembember that, and next election and vote No on any Rebublican, we need to send them a message. Obama needs to be able to over come any fillabuster they throw at him.

Right. Somebody whines about how Americans don't want to do a menial job for shitty money while ignoring the fact that most of the menial jobs in your country are being done by illegals for even less pay, and I'm the one who's selectively ignoring stuff.

I work construction, Where I am from if you do not speak spainish you will not work as a drywaller, a roofer, a cement finisher, a framer, are you getting the picture. I am  all for profit. It is what makes America great. What I cannot stand is greed. The price of a house has not gone down with the use of cheap labor, the contractors are just lining thier pockets. We need to put a screeching halt to illeagle labor in this country. We need to put honest hardworking Arericans back to work.

Wow, I didn't realize illegal immigration was such a big problem in the Detroit area. Must be all those pesky Canadians sneaking over again

Right. Somebody whines about how Americans don't want to do a menial job for shitty money while ignoring the fact that most of the menial jobs in your country are being done by illegals for even less pay, and I'm the one who's selectively ignoring stuff.

Hmmm, is this deflection, or straw manning?

Well, whatever it is, it's obvious that you couldn't find it, and then attempt to change the subject.

No, sweetie: inventing a position that bears no resemblance to what I said then expecting me to disprove it is straw manning.
Nice try though. Better than your usual standard, in any case.

It's been mentioned before in similar threads that over-qualified employees are turned down immediately for entry-level jobs because it's assumed they'll go back to their old career if the market turns around.

Folks who are trying to re-train from obsolete job fields are unable to get into or even complete community-college programs due to the cuts in course offerings.

You claimed that " the Republican who suggested this solution" (which was false to start with, as no "solution" was suggested).  An observation was made that unemployment tends to lengthen the time that a person will stay out of the job market.  (Which is pretty obviously true, btw).

It seemed to me that you were suggesting that "the Republican" was talking about completely doing away with unemployment.

So I said "I'm not sure any Republican suggested that unemployment be completely stopped. ".

You then tell me that I should "try reading the link Brain put in the OP", a complete non sequitur.

I then said "I've looked and there is nothing about doing away with the unemployment program: just how long it should be."

You again went off point, and avoided my question: "Right. Somebody whines about how Americans don't want to do a menial job for shitty money while ignoring the fact that most of the menial jobs in your country are being done by illegals for even less pay, and I'm the one who's selectively ignoring stuff."

WTF has that to do with my comments and questions to you, at all?

And you claim I am "straw manning"?  uh huh.

There is so much wrong with your reasoning (or lack thereof) and everything you've posted in this thread, I'm not sure there is enough rationality present to have a reasonable discussion.

Sharon Angle has claimed that Americans are refusing to work low paying menial jobs because they think it's beneath them. I pointed out that a lot of low paying menial jobs have been farmed out (not purely in California and Texas) to illegals who have no legal recourse and so work for less money while requiring no payments for tax or whatever you have in your country instead of NI. Reducing the period of time people can claim unemployment for will not do away with this problem.

Is that clear enough yet, or do I have to put a video with glove puppets on youtube for you?

I don't recall making any comment that Angle (or any other Republican, come to that) has claimed that unemployment can be done away with entirely, but you obviously prefer answering comments people haven't made to ones that they have.

Whether or not many "low paying menial jobs have been farmed out" or not, the thought is still true.  If a person has the ability to wait, due to continuing financial support (from whatever source), then why not do so?  Hell, I would too.  Just common sense.

And I think that was all that was being discussed.  You obviously thought it was time to sharpen your partisan blood-letting knife over Republicans.

Dumb ass.

No, clear enough.  You finally answered the fucking question that I had in the beginning.

Smart ass.
