I am so glad that there were NO group efforts for either master's degree!! I would have totally gone postal.

Hey Hibbilicious -
In my classes we are required to give group projects. However, I make sure each person is assigned a specific *portion* of the group project, and the group grade is miniscule compared to the personal grade. I was the person who did all the work in group projects in uni, so I understand about the need to have personal accountability.

The very best group project I saw last semester was an actual group who worked together and followed through on the spirit of "group" work. Each person did the thing they were most adept at. It was wonderful to see! I believe each one got a 90-100% on the project - even the ones who didn't speak great English because they were able to show off the abilities they had. THAT was the spirit of the project.

I was soooooooo proud of them!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 6:10:20 PM)

That is so cool, Sunny!! The nightmare one for me was the trans grammar where we had to do it all the same WAY, and of course none of us lived near each other so meeting was not really feasible more than twice.

EEEH. EEEEEEEEH!

submissivemale22 -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 6:14:13 PM)

personally, i don't think this is so horrible. if it was a class within her major, that would be one thing... but if it is a gen ed/elective, i don't think it is the worst thing in the world.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 7:39:16 PM)

Oh... I make the students create a group blog so they can communicate... and I can read what they are saying! It's kind of fun actually... they share info, websites, videos, etc. I love love love using technology in the classroom. This semester they have to do a group project that includes video or slide shows. I tell them that there were no personal computers when I was in uni. They look at me all *blink blink*

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 7:40:29 PM)

Oh HELL no!! I did my first master's on a TYPEWRITER!! They can't even IDENTIFY a typewriter!

I was the first person I knew to own a calculator. Of course I had to use the slide rule in exams. The damned thing cost me a month's allowance, $25. And they were locked up in cases like diamond jewelry. My engineering friends were so envious. I was an English major.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 8:29:17 PM)

FR-

Well everyone already thinks I'm overly judgemental, but I can't help but wish that the "princess" would be found out and kicked out of school, and the OP found out and have something negative put in his transcript.

I was accused of plagaerism in college (I did forget to cite something on one definition, all the others were there, it was human error). The instructor, an adjunct who was not even an associate professor was an absolute ass who the whole class had lodged complaints about since day one. That accusation was the final straw. I went to the dean of students and explained that there was a human error, totally unintentional, reminded her of the complaints she had on the jerk. Then I pointed out that if the matter were pursued, I would bring in every professor I had ever written a paper for to testify in my behalf that I had no need to copy other's works and pass them off as my own.

The adjunct was fired, and I graduated with honors.

As for the group projects, I don't know how I managed it, but even though many of my friends had to do group projects, I never had one class where I was required to do it. I was extremely happy to have been able to avoid it.

Hello all. What are your thoughts on homework slavery? Do you have any idea what it is? Have you ever experienced it? This question is more for us college students :P

I hate to be judgmental, but I did want to add a thought.  I have been a "no-strings housework" sub before.  Many subs view that as the dumbest thing that anyone could ever do.  Moreover, most Dommes view "no-strings housework" subs/slaves the same way they view unicorns; they think that they don't exist.

So, as someone who has done something that even those in the BDSM community think is stupid, I have to say that I think that being a homework slave is stupid.

To me, the problem with being a homework sub/slave is that you actually hurt your Domme, rather than help her.  She's young, and so she probably doesn't realize that getting someone else to do the work for her is actually hurting her.  Moreover, her parents are probably paying for her education, so she probably doesn't realize that she is wasting their money.

While she may be young and naive, you don't have to be.  Can't you see that you are making it more difficult for her to pass her exams?  How is she going to be able to pass tests on topics that she hasn't actually done the homework for?  Moreover, you're stealing from her.  You're robbing her of her education.

As a sub, I see my role to be one that should make my Domme's life better, not worse.  I think there is a real possibility that by cheating for her, you may make her life worse.

The problem with youth is that they are too young to realize when they are making mistakes.  [8|]

This!

As a submissive I am more concerned with meeting a dominant's needs rather than their wants. The "domme" who wants her homework done by someone else is having her wants fulfilled rather than her needs. She *needs* to do her own homework. A wise submissive would help her with her homework but not do it for her. That way the homework is getting done, she's learning what she needs to, and the submissive is providing a service that she seems to want.

georgeinca -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 9:26:51 PM)

Now, to me, when I saw the topic, I thought that "homework slavery" would work like this:

1) If it's the sub who's in school, the dom/me would reward the sub for doing well in school, and punish the sub for doing less well.

2) If it's the dom/me who's in school, the sub would "serve" the dom/me by bringing refreshments as requested, proofreading papers, changing the ink in the printer, providing study-break sexual service, whatever helped the dom/me get the job done.

Those make perfect sense to me. But the sub doing the dom/me's homework? Nuh-uh!

(Besides, even if I wanted to have a sub do my homework, it'd be a pretty special sub who'd be able to do all the crap I have to study for. And if they could do it, then THEY would want to do it for themselves so as to get into this relatively well-paying career I've changed to.)

Kana -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 11:13:55 PM)

I've had subs do editing (especially the one with the creative writing degree, and the Ivy League lawyer), but, as the content was all my original work, that's a different ballgame entirely.
Now my Master's was in a hard math field, so I got no help there:-(

myotherself -> RE: Homework slavery (6/25/2010 11:56:10 PM)

As a teacher, I know my students well enough to spot when homework is not up (or down!) to their usual standards.

If it's much worse than usual, I will have a private chat with them to discuss the reasons. This has the effect of either giving the student a private chance to admit they didn't understand the work, and we can go through it in a friendly one-to-one session. Or they can admit they didn't bother doing it and there was no good reason, and they get a roasting. Or they give me a valid reason, and they get my support.

If it's much better than usual, I will often give them the opportunity to discuss their methodology and reasoning with me...this ALWAYS trips up the cheats! Those who really did have a flash of inspiration and did an unusually good job get a second chance to shine and to receive personal praise. Those who copied or cheated - get a roasting, and a detention during which they get the chance to do it ALL again. Under my supervision.

I only hope the lying, cheating bint has professors like me!

But what about when she has to write exams? See, this is a plan destined for failure. Except for him, I reckon, if he gets to learn new things.

I just read her profile. She thinks she is going to get boys to support her, so I guess she doesn't need the education. It is the little twits like this that give pros a bad name.

MissAsylum -> RE: Homework slavery (6/26/2010 5:08:46 AM)

i read her profile yesterday. i wouldn't count her as a pro- just a mooch. i WORK for my money, not expect it to be handed over simply because I'm young and hot.

Damn...what a blatant display of a lack of integrity. Shame on you [>:]

I guess she didn't like the answers he got. She has "released" him.

LaserKitty -> RE: Homework slavery (6/26/2010 5:27:52 AM)

It IS about the end of semester, isn't it?

myotherself -> RE: Homework slavery (6/26/2010 5:28:08 AM)

nah, she just found someone smarter.

Or more stoopid.

Pffffttt...one or the other [8|]

slavekal -> RE: Homework slavery (6/26/2010 7:21:39 AM)

I am not a fan of it.  I have no problem with giving free tutoring and study help, but you should not do anyone else's homework for them.  It's fraud.  And it could end up being dangerous if they are studying in the medical field or in electronics.  They could get a job and not know what they are doing.
