Aneirin -> Why Blondes ? (6/26/2010 7:39:33 PM)

The area in which I live is traditiunally a stronghold for dark haired people, it being normally of south Devon/Cornish extraction. It has always been so, dark hair rules, but lately and tonight I noticed of the numerous women present at my usual drinking hole the majority were blondes, and of them quite a number were clearly peroxide blondes. But what I have to ask mainly of the fairer sex here, just what is the attraction to blonde, why is it seen to be so desirable with many ?

Just what is wrong with a dark haired maiden, why the apparent need to be blonde ?

Couldn't tell you, I am a true redhead and would never be driven to be a fake blonde. It has been my experience that a lot of men prefer redheads, and I like being that way. [:)].

In some, it's not the desire to be blonde as much as the chance to change something.

MissAsylum -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/26/2010 9:11:04 PM)

why blonde? in my opinion, it relates to the screen sirens of the 50s, the top ones being blonde. Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield...these women reek of raw sensuality, which is a desirable trait to behold. Like Aynee, I am a natural redhead(i honestly don't know how the hell it happened), but i have coloured my hair, only to be a scarlett red. I am firery and passionate, and for me to go blonde, i would be pouring a bucket over the flames. In any event, gentlemen prefer redheads(in my expirence).

Nineveh -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/26/2010 9:13:56 PM)

I personally like any hair color except blonde.  I wont' rule a woman out on hair color alone, but I definitely prefer a brunette a redhead or a black haired woman to a blonde in most cases.  I do know that gray does not show up as easily on a blonde, but I think when it does show up on someone with darker hair that it tends to add a touch of distinction that I also tend to enjoy.

Aynne, that is a lovely new picture of yourself there.

My hair has been every color under the sun at one time or another.  I love to be able to do that.  I love being able to change my hair color if I so desire.  It's fun!

xXsoumisXx -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/26/2010 9:24:45 PM)

hmm i have to say , that as a natural blonde unil, say 9th grade, that yes i help my blone along a bit. in my early 20's i let it go natural.. was preggers, wanted to be earth mother and all that.. i notice that
i was not noticed! my natural color is that blah dishwater blonde.. my whole family has that color. but, some go dark, some go red, females anyway..
i just lighten a bit, for that pop. i could have gone drker, and actually think it would be more flatering, but would cause too much of a rukus right now..;)

edited cause i can't spell..;)

<----Loves being a Brunette.

kdsub -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/26/2010 9:52:07 PM)

Some colors compliment skin tones better than others…Blonde is such a color than provides the right contrast and color harmony to light caucasian facial tones. Especially those with low magenta and yellow tones in relation to cyan.

Otherwise blonde hair brightens the face and accentuates the eyes and lips…dark strong colors tend to draw the eye away from the eyes and mouth.

also a natural VERY fair blonde -white haired or toe headed- until a young adult i help my blonde along at times. i like it when it has grown out some, as it has now, and there are streaks of light blonde and dark blonde mingled together.
also, my eyebrows, eye lashes, and body hair is blonde. have thought about going red, but red with blonde eyebrows? and i can't see myself penciling them every day, not worth the effort.

also my son is a natural blonde, and he colors his hair often because he doesn't like it blonde.

so my question is... why not blonde?

Loric -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 12:11:14 AM)

it's a matter of personal preference for most...personally, hair color doesn't have any bearing on whether I get involved with someone or not though I do prefer redheads...something to do with that firey nature

Level -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 4:27:52 AM)

I do love blondes. If everything else is equal, that's what I'd choose, there's just something "softer" about it.

Having said that... I also love redheads, brunettes, etc. Heart has no hair color.

I think some women believe that men generally prefer blonde.  Some men do, of course... some don't.

I think some women believe blonde hair lends a youthful appearance.

I think some women believe that blondes have more fun.

I think some women just want a drastic change from what they have naturally.

I could never be blonde.  I don't have the right skin coloring to begin with.  Besides... I think "blondes" with brown eyes and dark eyebrows look strange.

Actually, only Madonna could get away with this.

I'm in the process of bleaching my hair as I type, not out of any burning desire to be blonde but more because it makes a change from my naturally very dark hair. I'm one of those people who likes to change on a fairly regular basis. I've been various shades of blonde for the last 6 months or so, the longest I've had the same (ish) colour since I was 12. In a month I could have red or brown or black or blue (actually debating going purple, just for the hell of it). It's fun and the look of shock on my partners face when he walks in and I've gone some wild colour is priceless :D

BentUnit -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 5:29:27 AM)

Pffftttt.
Let me pour nothing but contempt upon the whole "redhead" theory.
Sure if you like redheads then, hell, you like redheads.
There is no need to ascribe or perpetuate the myth to justify your personal tastes.

I am a Brunette.
I come from a (Spanish) maternal line of Brunettes.
Also, may I add that this line also has produced some of the most dynamic, fiery passionate woman you'd ever meet.
All without the punitive ..ahem...help of being redheads.

My dd has light blonde hair with brown eyes and dark eyebrows and it's stunning. (of course, she'll probably grow out of the blonde thing when she gets older....I know *I* did.)

MissAsylum -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 6:01:56 AM)

wow. done playing one up? I'm not trying bash you, and I apologise if it comes off that way- but the statements that all Latina's are firey...yeah, that's an assumption aka myth. just like the redhead statement the you just poured your bucket of contempt over. i know quite a few redheads who are anything but passionate and firey. and i've met some hispanics who also where anything but firey and passionate. I happen to be a firey redhead by circumstance. you happen to be a firery Hispanic by circumstance.

BentUnit -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 6:12:38 AM)

Where did I offer an absolute about those with a Spanish heritage?

I didn't.

I use the same old timers guide lines when choosing a horse.

A good horse can't be a bad color.

I offered the fact I an of Spanish linage and fiery as a fact that the whole redheaded theory is pure bollocks.
I will also tender there is fiery spirited women in any nationality and hair color just as there are passive ones.

Hair color will never denote nor signal temperament in anyone.

Speaking of hair colour and temperment, I'm very intrigued by this article on cats' coat colour and temperment: http://www.messybeast.com/colour-tempment.htm
