neither will heritage.

that is my whole point.

my point is that you are firey and passionate, and that you just happen to be of Hispanic heritage.

Which is why I said:

quote:

I happen to be a firey redhead by circumstance. you happen to be a firery Hispanic by circumstance.

you however, did offer an absolute to the redhead theory is just a theory.

i do not believe anybody on this thread equated being a redhead as the be all, end all of hot-blooded women. But you equated your liniage as the be all, end all of hot-blooded women.

quote:

I come from a (Spanish) maternal line of Brunettes.
Also, may I add that this line also has produced some of the most dynamic, fiery passionate woman you'd ever meet.
All without the punitive ..ahem...help of being redheads.

I haven't met the women in your family, and from just seeing your post here, i have no doubt of your passionate side.

However, I am willing to make a bet that there are many women out there that could give the women in your family a serious run for their money in terms of the firery nature.

But saying punitive in reference to a woman being firery and having her red hair being a contibutive factor is just plain ole rude.[;)]

I just believe my hair colour tends to match my personality.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 6:57:46 AM)

Is being Spanish Hispanic?

MissAsylum -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 7:03:11 AM)

to be honest, i don't think there is a real answer to that. ask a hundred people, undoubtedly, you will get a hundred different answers.

I've been to Spain last year, and for the love of cheesecake, DO NOT refer to any of the natives as Spanish OR Hispanic.

"We are European, NOT SPANISH! And we DAMN sure are not HISPANIC!"

(rough translation lol)

yes i know it sounds odd considering they are FROM Spain, but whatever. They reacted as if I had called them Mexicans. And never confuse a Puerto Rican as Mexcian or Spanish.

With the Dominican people in my family, they are just as tempermental as the people from Spain, Puerto Ricans, and the Mexicans.

Even though that's the majority of my blood line, i couldn't care less what people refer to me as in terms of Spanish heritage. I'm the biggest mutt of my family anyway (Caucasian, Dominican, Hatian) so its nice when anybody get any of those right.

Except when people think that I'm mixed with Asian. That really chaps my ass.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 7:06:29 AM)

Well, I get that.  I've implied that Northern New Mexico Hispanics were Mexican Americans before.  I won't do that again.

But if Spaniards don't appreciate being called Hispanics, why do it to Bent?

I know it's a small point...

MissAsylum -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 7:10:07 AM)

it wasn't on purpose. I was never really corrected until recently. Hard habit to break.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 7:12:44 AM)

No problem.  I was just curious.

I could never be blonde.  I don't have the right skin coloring to begin with.

Me neither. I tried blonde in my late twenties. It lasted all of a week. My natural color was dark with red tones. But the older I got the lighter it got. So I simply "help" it stay a medium/dark auburn. [:)]

eta: I didn't have any more fun in that week as a blonde than I've had any other week. [8D]

Aneirin -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 8:07:23 AM)

Incidently, it is said that one of the reasons why there is/was a lot of dark haired, dark skinned people born down here was because of the Spanish Armada, shipwrecked Spaniards just melted into the population.

The other thought is that this area is an ancient celtic tribe with connections to Southern Ireland and Brittany.

Just what is wrong with a dark haired maiden, why the apparent need to be blonde ?

Right now, my hair is cut short and it's natural color...dark *dirty*blonde with streaks of white (I'm sooo digging those white streaks!).

I've been a brunette, a redhead and a cool ashy/platinum blond.  I've had streaks of magenta, blue and green all at various times.  I once did my hair completely black just to see how it would look (not good but that's ok, it was temporary color).

I change my hair color as a form of expression.   Right now I'm feeling more natural and I let my hair color and style reflect that.

The accepted color/style for most women, regardless of age, in the area where I work seems to be blonde with "natural" highlights and cut to be just long enough to pull into a perfect perky ponytail for when they play tennis, go to the club or when they attend a black-tie event and wear it pulled back into a slick chignon.

They wear it like a uniform....think Bergdorf_Blonde [;)]

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 8:09:26 AM)

(sighs) doesn't really matter what color I dye my hair.  If I go out in the sun for any length of time, the sun bleaches it blonde.

I'm a strawberry blonde.  I tell people this gives me a unique advantage.  I have the temper of a redhead, but the memory of a blonde.
Even if I do get mad at you, I'll quickly forget that I was angry anyway.

I'm naturally blonde with blue eyes, from birth. It comes from my paternal Germanic roots. I had white blonde hair for the longest time and with age it turns to ash blonde. I add a golden tint to it (a tint, not a colour) in order to not look too washed out, especially during the Canadian winter months.

I think it's really a question of the exotic. Only Caucasians have blonde hair, so right away, that reduces the odds. I remember going to local Middle Eastern night clubs with friends and really sticking out like a sore thumb. And even though some Middle Eastern are Caucasian (Persians for example) it is still a rarity there.

And amongst Caucasian, blonde is still a minority. The blonde hair and blue eyes tends to die out eventually when mixed with other genes (I'm not sure what the rate is exactly as I have a second cousin who's 3/4 Sicilian and still is blonde haired and blue eyed). My mother is fair with ash blonde hair and green eyes, which is what allowed me to have my father's blonde hair and blue eyes. There was also blue eyes in her family.

And while blondes are exotic, redheads are even more so.

I think some women believe that men generally prefer blonde.  Some men do, of course... some don't.

Exactly. And some men really look for more important things than hair, eye or skin colour! I actually find men who focus too much on such superficial criterias turn me off to be honest.

quote:

I think some women believe blonde hair lends a youthful appearance.

Interesting. I look younger than I am, which I don't mind at all. I think it's more the lack of wrinkles as I approach my 38th birthday more than my blonde hair (ok, let a woman brag!)

I do know however that I have been seen as *softer* because of my blonde hair and blue eyes. If only they knew ;-)

quote:

I think some women believe that blondes have more fun.

It depends on what a woman defines a fun! I don't link my happiness or my popularity to my blonde hair. I think my smile is much more contagious.

quote:

I think some women just want a drastic change from what they have naturally.

This I get! I tried being a red head once. Ack! I only had to put on a black bob wig once to realise I'd look dreadfully grey and ill. Now, all I have is a tint to make it slightly more golden. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with being blonde, but I have no grey hairs either.

quote:

I could never be blonde.  I don't have the right skin coloring to begin with.  Besides... I think "blondes" with brown eyes and dark eyebrows look strange.

I think it were really drastic, it might look odd. When people ask me if I'm a real blonde, I tell them to look at my eyebrows. They fit with my hair colour. I find that when wanting to change hair colours, it's good to stay within the same luminosity/intensity of colour. Like someone who dies their hair auburn with brown eyebrows stays within that range.

Then again, it looks good on some people, Jessica Alba comes to mind. I guess it depends on the shade and how it harmonizes with the face.

Couldn't tell you, I am a true redhead and would never be driven to be a fake blonde. It has been my experience that a lot of men prefer redheads, and I like being that way. [:)].

What she said.

Well I'm not really into smack downs. I just tend to ignore the truly ignorant ;-)

MissJana -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 10:54:45 AM)

I, like many others, enjoy changing my hair color. I have had everything from blonde to black hair and about everything in between.  My natural color was a dark dirty dishwater blonde and now a good mix of grey, ugh. I have received far more compliments on my hair as a blonde probably because my skin is so fair. I carried off red pretty well too.

I dunno.  When I see her in the Fantastic Four movies, I keep thinking that that's not how a blond is supposed to look.  The coloration just looks off.

DomImus -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 1:11:08 PM)

I think you are over thinking this. It's not much different than why someone purchases a red car. They like the color. I doubt that in the vast majority of cases there exists some psychological need to be one color or another. Simple choice or maybe they prefer the way people treat them as a blonde as opposed to as a brunette or redhead. I prefer brunettes.

Aneirin -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 2:47:54 PM)

No, my post was based upon an observation that is all, I tend to notice things like that for reasons I have already mentioned.

MissSepphora1 -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 5:07:05 PM)

The reality of genetics: my paternal grand mother was red/green my paternal grand father brown/brown. my father has yellow green eyes and was blonde when he was younger. my mother's father was part native american, my mother's mother was blonde/blue. my mother is dark, skin hair and eyes.
me... i come out with the blonde hair and blue eyes of my maternal grandmother. although genetics was working against it, here i am.
my son's father has brown hair and eyes, tan skin. my son has blonde/blue/fair complexion.
my daughters' father has brown hair and green eyes/ fair skin. my middle child is light brown/blue/fair. but my baby daughter is drop dead gorgeous with long dark hair, dark skin, and bright blue eyes.

how genetics should be and reality are two totally different things, in my family anyway i can't wait to see my baby daughter carting around little blonde haired/blue eyed/fair skinned babies. and she will have to say, they look just like their grandmother! *smiles*

Nineveh -> RE: Why Blondes ? (6/27/2010 5:44:15 PM)

Blonde hair and blue eyes are recessive.  So a child can get them even if no parent has them.  Dark hair and brown eyes are dominant, so one parent or the other has to have them for the kid to get them.  I'm pretty sure it works the same way for dark vs light skin.

Looks like your kids dad has some recessive blond/blue/light skin genes.
