This poll is to determine which nation from a list of 10 actually has the worlds best trained and most combat experienced armed forces. It should not be influenced by prejudice or false perceptions about your own nation. It should be based upon historical realities and known capabilities.

I voted China. At the end of the day quantity beats quality. Looking back at most wars proves this point, having said this though the technical advantage that the US currently has would also win out. This was proven in that great film ‘The last Samurai” in which Tom Cruse follows in the footsteps of Kevin Costner to repeat the same basic patronising nonsense storyline as ‘Dances with wolves’ They say if the next war is fought with nuclear weapons the one after that will be fought with sticks and stones. The Iran situation does worry me greatly but you can’t halt progress. So make peace not war. Bla de bla bla…etc. etc.

China started to modernise and train and equipt its armed forces along western lines in the late 1980s. It also adopted western style tactics. Apart from intervention in the Korean War and a border war with India and a war with Vietnam,it has little real military experience. It nonetheless is capable of fielding the worlds largest Army and that would be a formidable fighting force.

ummm They are mostly part timers me thinks. They also shoot documentary reporters at point blank range. To call them well trained is an insult to that mans family.

Isreal leads the polls due to the fact that many former military have knowledge of just how rigerous their training is and how being inducted on Mt Masada is so important to every Jewish man and woman who enters the Isreal Military. This is a very important place in the hearts of many of the Jewish faith. It was one of Herods palaces that became an impregnable fortress. Did the Jews who were there defeat the Roman's? It is a matter of view. The Romans could not defeat the Jews because they found a way to prevent the romans from conquering them. Mass Suicide? Some say yes, all we actually know is that the Romans found every man, woman, and child with their throat slit. This was the only way they could find to prevent being conquered by the Romans. The Jewis warriors fought until there was not other option.

But who gave them the weapons in the first place? They didn't have anything until the U.S. sent it to them. I used to have a pic of an Israeli soldier until my hard drive dumped it a few years ago. Stenciled on the back of his helmet were the words "Born to Kill" Enough. I think that says it all for me. The U.S. has meddled into other countries politics for way too long. Edited again due to piss poor spelling.

No question at all....Israel. there is no army on earth that has fought and won as many wars at such an overwhelming disadvatage as the Israelis. And I am sorry Wytchy, if it were due solely to US funding, then how come they have a better record than the US military? Training, trianing, training, and a cause they believe in.

Because fanatics always have a "cause". Up until 1947 or so there WAS no "state of Israel". How did they get their precious land that they kill over? By force. If the UK don't have the best army, why have the US never won a single war that we weren't involved in? I think the UK national debt could be completely solved, and actually we could start acumulating some major wealth, if we just openly rented out our forces! J

My vote is for Israel also, but I have questions for ya wytchy: How did you come to the conclusion that Israel never belonged to the Jews? I'm coming from the point of view that after wandering in the sesert for 40 years, the Jews settled in Israel. I know I may not have the exact dates correct, but somewhere in 50ish AD the Romans invaded Israel and took it from them. The history is complicated, but sufficient to say... During the Crusades Israelites were massacred, but re bounded over the next two centuries. I am not flaming you, but very curious to know how you came to the conclussion that it never belonged to them? It was not always the "state of Israel", but it was the " kingdom of Israel". mbmbn
