Maybe you shouldn't be calling them "lurkers" but should stating that you realize that they are shy and maybe frightened to say anything.

I tend to be very shy and quiet and in a lot of situations have to force myself to join in, so I don't do a lot of posting usually. That makes me a lurker or semi-lurker I suppose, but the term doesn't bother me or seem negative to me, it just describes what I do (or don't depending on your term of preference).

I wouldn't worry about sticking your foot in your mouth, if you do, there's many here that are doing it on a much larger scale that will shine in that spotlight. [;)]
