The biggest problem with this thread overall is trying to figure out who is talking about benefits in the US and who is referring to the UK. The are apparently wildly different.

In the US, there are local areas all over where the undocumented immigrants wait on street corners for day labor jobs. They aren't paid good money, they don't pay taxes and they ARE keeping citizens from getting the jobs and as long as there are people who will work for less than a living wage, the minimum wage isn't going up. That's a pretty simple theory, don't you think?

i think each government should be given a stash of money from an international body and the rest the taxpayer makes up. Then people who need to avail of the services will not have taxpayers saying get a bloody job or your living off the state when in fact they are living off an international body its not costin g joe taxpayer a cent.  So why then should it be anyone's business but the jobseeker concerned how actively or not he or she seeks employment, when in fact it really isnt the taxpayer's money at all , just the return of his or her taxes when he or she was employed

And in another way sharing is caring. Why shouldnt well off taxpayers fund the lifestyle of unemployed folk. Like i say sharing is caring
