The biggest problem with this thread overall is trying to figure out who is talking about benefits in the US and who is referring to the UK. The are apparently wildly different. In the US, there are local areas all over where the undocumented immigrants wait on street corners for day labor jobs. They aren't paid good money, they don't pay taxes and they ARE keeping citizens from getting the jobs and as long as there are people who will work for less than a living wage, the minimum wage isn't going up. That's a pretty simple theory, don't you think?
