ORIGINAL: SL4V3M4YB3 Yeah but to be fair to him I don't know anyone that used a music lesson to learn a musical instrument, it just never happened. Those that could play already knew how to (because they had an odd upbringing). Our music lessons were used for 'fighting in the dark', a very fun game that you can only play in violin store rooms containing expensive musical instruments. I went to what had been a grammar school before comprehensive schools came in and the teachers hadn't moved on....so it was a case of middle class teachers trying to teach working class kids......for instance...all the teachers wanted us to play rugby....but we put a stop to it by taking the piss during matches....we hated it and more often than not the scrums would end in a brawl with lads just hoying punches at anything that moved....we just wanted the teachers to let us play football so did pretty much anything to get rugby stopped....similar with music....our music teachers were well educated grammar school types who really wanted to educate us and help us move away from our collective socio-economic status.....they must have been in despair that we really just weren't interested and thought lessons were an extension of when you went round a lass's house with a few of your mates to mess around and have a laugh........ The only lessons I remember being serious about were History....English Literature....and Religious Education (as we had some spot on debates about euthanasia and abortion).....and couldn't really have cared less whether or not I passed or failed the rest of 'em....
