I'm curious about what other posters think about the process as well. Should being Moderated three times be enough? What about five? Ten?
Considering that moderation isn't used nearly as strictly as it has in the past, what do people think of it these days?
My opinion is that moderation ought to be strike frequency related.
There is quite a frequency difference between a new poster who accumulates three strikes against him in his first three posts (100 %) and someone who accumulates three strikes against him in twelve thousand plus posts (less than 0.03 %). Not so? That ought to be taken into account.
I have got at least three strikes against me, and have had one period of moderation.
I feel that at least two of those strikes were unjustified. I very well recall the first one. I had been in discussion with someone who continually took my well meant posts the wrong way. Preferring not to have any conflicts with anyone at all, I pondered why that person reacted that way. I concluded that either the person had problems comprehending my posts for reason of being a dyslectic, or - more likely - that the person took my posts the wrong way for reason of having a logical disability. Being a nice guy, I politely inquired whether the person was dyslectic, as that was the less severe affliction. In reply the person denied being dyslectic and that was that for me. I then knew that the person had a logical disability and that I would do well to avoid having such discussions with that person. Then all of a sudden and completely unexpected by me a mod came down like a tonne of bricks onto me, accusing me of all things vile. I am convinced that ever since that mod had it in for me, being convinced that I was an evil person.
I promptly hit the Hide button on the person with logical disabilities and ever since I have done so whenever a poster got me into trouble with a mod. I also sometimes hit the Hide button on people who have less than two hundred posts when I suspect that reading and replying to their posts might get me into trouble with a mod.
Edited again to add this paragraph:
I have noticed that nearly all of the people whose posts I have hidden from my sight after some time stop posting. Either because they were taken out by a mod, or because they got other interests, or because they were struck by lightning and are now reincarnated as a bunch of worms or maggots, I speculate.
The one time that I was moderated, I might have protested that, but I felt so disgusted with the sordid affair with the mean person that was the cause of it all that I could not care less about being moderated.
That said, I also recognize that mods have been lenient with me, as well as with other posters.
Edited to add: I appreciate the more relaxed moderation these days and am glad that some of the banned posters have returned.
