Yes, it's my second one. I got one for Christmas 2008 and then got a bigger, nicer Kindle DX this past year. I love, love, love it and haven't had one second's worth of buyer's remorse, Katy. I am not usually even one who goes for e-books. I much prefer the feel of actual books. BUT....it is so handy and such a convenient way of always having so much great reading material with you wherever you are. If I find myself standing in line too long somewhere or waiting at the dr.'s office, I have it right there and never lack something to entertain me. Go for it. I predict you'll love it

luci

Edited to add: It doesn't have to be a choice between a Kindle and "real" books. I am a librarian. I work with "real" books all day, I still spend obscene amounts of money on "real" books and my house is overflowing with them. I couldn't love them more. No one takes away your library card or your freedom to read, buy and own all the hardcopy books you want just because you want a Kindle too, guys. It doesn't have to be "either/or." As someone who simply loves reading, no matter the format, I find it a wonderful enhancement and not a replacement for reading a "real" book. And, btw, "real" books don't hold up real well after being dropped in the tub either

That makes it sound like the perfect medium for me.

I see it more as an additional way of reading.  That's how I view my iPod, it's another way to listen to music and information.  I still enjoy my cds and satellite radio, but having an iPod is also nice.

So the Nook and Kindle are different E-reader platforms?  Are the available books the same?  I rarely go to B&N, spend most of my books dollars @ Alibris, also trade books paperbackswap.com

Nook operates on the ePub format, which is the same format used by Sony Reader and iBook (iPad's bookstore). It also reads PDFs as native documents, and the PDB electronic media format (again, as native documents).

Kindle format is proprietary, but the Kindle also reads PDF documents.

(I'm unfamiliar with the Sony reader)

I like books. I like the feel of books. I like the way the pages turn. I like the way you can but it down with the pages open and come back to it later.

I like the way the battery never needs recharging on a book. I like the way you can give it to a friend when you are done with a book. I like the way you can trade them in at the half price book store. I like the way books smell.

I like the fact that I have books all over the place.

Books rock. Kindles are cold and unappealing.

This. And I love spending hours in a book store gathering lots of books and sitting down to decide which ones I'll buy this time and which ones I'll get next time. I love the fact that I can get together with family and friends and swap out books. I like being able to slide in the pages with the characters in the books.

I'm a book junkie.

We have one. They just added a web browser to it. I recommend one.

Wow, I'm gonna crank mine up and see if they push an upgrade.  The original browser was barely, and I mean barely, functional.

I LOVE books and would never be caught dead with a Kindle...blasphemous things they are. Time spent with a book is special and I treasure it.

I also like looking at a bookshelf full of books, running my fingers over them to decide which to read next or just remembering them.....heavenly

Old fashioned kind of girl here, I like a book with pages than I can turn.
Always have a book or 4 in my bag, and one in every room of the house, as well as several at work, so that I always have reading material available.

Yep ditto, there is something akin to a religious feeling in a room full of books. I certainly have more awe and respect for books.

edited cause i messed up the quotey bits

Anybody know if there are any area restrictions with them?  I'm considering one too, much as i love love love the feel of a book.  I often can't get television shows or youtube things downloaded here because of copyright restrictions.  Any idea?

There was an issue about the frequency of downloads. Apparently Amazon places a limitation on how many devices you can store a particular book on. You can read more here.

The Kindle and the Nook don't have back lights so you don't get eye strain apparently.

I've never had the opportunity to try out a Kindle so am not sure, although was asking a woman on the train about hers and she said it's the best purchase she made in years. It allows the daily commute to just fly by.

If you go to Barnes & Noble you can try out their e-reader, the Nook.

After you synch you go to the main menu.  Click on the experimental tab.  I think Kindle realized with the new e-book readers out there they had to add on.  They've also added text to speak...seems to me that might have always been there though.

It looks like it should work in Korea, including wireless 3G downloads, although the book selection may be more limited than in the US. Amazon.com's main page for the Kindle has a little box (currently on the right) titled "Live Outside the U.S.?" that allows you to check support for your specific country. There's some more information relevant to international use on this page:Using Kindle if You Live Outside the United States. Hope that helps.

This.

I gave Firm a Sony Reader Daily Edition for Christmas and it hasn't stopped him from spending a small fortune on "real" books since then.  He does use it often for the convenience... especially when we travel as it keeps him from having to carry several books along with us.  Like Thorn, he's also a voracious reader.

There were a couple of important selling points for the Sony... it is compatible with several ebook formats (pdf, Word, ePub, and text), and it plays audio books, as well.
