The words are defined by gender, it's a simple fact. But hey, I'm sure you know better than dictionaries on what words mean, lol.
Usage defines language, not vice versa.

Hence the word "punk" no longer is only used to refer to male prostitutes.

By attempting to use the dictionary as an authority on this, you're merely illustrating that you have no idea how language works.

Yeah, because you see a lot of women in leadership roles in religion... oh wait, no, most religions have held woman's right's back for centuries.

"
another : ruler, governor b" Fair enough, all the women on here who are governors be my guest and call yourselves masters.

I'm curious, why then, if Master is applicable for women, did CM bother to make two separate categories. And are Masters as welcome in the Mistress section? Somehow I doubt it, the Mistress category has more FAQ's, requiring people be respectful of the domme category. I didn't see that in the masters section. Sounds like a bit of sexism to me.

The word master is gender specific to men, as mistress is specific to women, so yeah, having a penis is a requirement of being a master.

So in College Women Don't get Masters Degrees?

Flat out, as a FACT, you are incorrect.

QSM

The word master applies to the degree, as in Masters degree, not the person holding said degree. The word master is gender specific to Men, just as the word mistress is gender specific to women. If that fact bothers some, than CM should created an ask a Dominant section, and avoid the gender based names.

"Master Used as a title for any of various male officers having specified duties concerning the management of the British royal household.e. Master Used as a courtesy title before the given or full name of a boy not considered old enough to be addressed as Mister.f. Archaic Used as a form of address for a man; mister.15. Master A man who owns a pack of hounds or is the chief officer of a hunt."

"Mistress: A WOMAN in a position of authority."

The words are defined by gender, it's a simple fact. But hey, I'm sure you know better than dictionaries on what words mean, lol.

Tell you what... I'm pretty sure we have few British Royal Household Managers here... if you got a set of Dogs help yourself to the title... Truth be told NONE of those are how the word is being used here.... and you can't be dumb enough to this it is.

I am a Master Mason, as well as a Master Electrician. These are Titles that come with my ability in Stone and Electrical wiring and running... There are MANY female Master Electricians.

Master as it is used here is NOT gender Specific.

Master, meaning MALE. Does not exist in the definions you gave, the British Master of the house is not the etimology of the word it is just one of it's uses.

The etimolgy of Master has it's roots in determined leader, and ultimate authority.

It is not Gender specific.

But if you wanna keep arguing it... you have fun with that.

QSM

And you think people on here are using it in an electrician sense?

Can you at least try not to be a hypocrite?

You opinion is noted with all the other fantasy based fanatical ones, however, the admin and moderators of cm are the tops here and they say otherwise. Suck it up buttercup.

Gah, I hate to do this, because Yourscum is entirely wrong on this, but arguments from etymology aren't valid.

If you say someone is "nice", you aren't suggesting that they're "ignorant".

If that were the case they wouldn't have a different section for masters and mistress' now would they?

Direct quote from "Protocol Handbook for the Leather Slave:  Theory and Practice", by Robert J. Rubel, PhD, page 22:

Distinction between Master as an adjective and Master as a noun.

Master (adj): a Leatherman who has earned such respect  within the Community that other senior Leathermen refer to this person as a Master (regardless of gender).  This respect is generally  granted after years of selfless contribution to the Leather Community as a whole.  This is an earned title that is usually granted in a public ceremony.

Master (n):  Man or woman who seeks to exert total control over another.

As I said earlier in the thread, I qualify.

That's great, and if this were a LEATHER site, that might matter.

Yourscum -> RE: Dommes Posting in "Ask A Master" (7/13/2010 10:49:35 AM)

Also perhaps you can answer what the others ignored. If there is no distinction between gender for the title of master, why is there one for the title of mistress? Just blatant sexism?

It is the case as the moderator has commented. Do you read this stuff or just spout off with whatever fantasy that supports your egobased theories?

Allowing people to post and considering them under the definition aren't exactly the same thing.

Whether this is a leather site or not, it absolutely is a site regarding BDSM, and leather people are absolutely part of the community.
