Sure, julia, lets allow him to walk away. It was just a little girl... barely a teen if you will. The next one that this happens too, we can let him walk away too.

How many daughters do you have?

He would do 90 days in jail...

So you are willing to spend tax dollars on chasing this man to the ends of the Earth to save American girls? You find nothing slightly out of balance when we could be spending money on pedophiles in our own backyard? If you were really worried about your daughters you would be checking megan's list and worrying about what you find out about in your own backyard instead of fearing a man that is afraid to come back here for a 3 month sentence[8|]

How is locking him up for 3 months protecting your daughters? He would just be free to come back to the good ole USA after that anyhow And his victim is on board with letting him go... and yes, I think what SHE wants counts for something.

Bold emphasis is mine. According to the reports, he was to be deported, never allowed to return. So there goes that theory.

Both my cousins were victims of pedophiles.

My niece was molested by her mother's boyfriend at 9 years old. He only did 3 months. I suppose this is my issue with this entire conversation. She WAS a little girl as in had no period, no breasts, no body hair....

I really didn't want to bring this up on here, but I DO see it as a muddying of the waters when we compare sex with prepubescent with other sex crimes....

He raped her. He drugged her and had sex with her and sodomized her. That to me is RAPE. The fact remains, he would barely do any time at all, and we have a long list of sex offenders to be more concerned about in our backyard.... go to Megan's list and type in your zip and see what I mean

Go to Megan's list and worry... that is what concerns me, not some old pervert that is in another country who has never committed another sex crime

tazzygirl -> RE: Lousy Swiss…dumb assed French (7/12/2010 7:55:10 PM)

Rape is Rape... regardless of the age. The fact that she was 13 made no difference than the 9 year old. They were both little girls. anyone who sees a 13 year old as an adult capable ot giving consent has some serious issues.

I cannot, in all good faith, allow myself to turn a blind eye to anyone who has taken the innocence away. Polanski is banking on that. He was to be deported and refused return. He ran like a coward, and has been running ever since. You see it as a worthless effort. I see it as taking a stand against his behavior and as a lesson to anyone else who attempts the same.

I could never condone flight from justice, especially when the man admitted to what he did, then tucked tail and ran.

juliaoceania -> RE: Lousy Swiss…dumb assed French (7/12/2010 7:56:17 PM)

Well, we differ in priorities....

kdsub -> RE: Lousy Swiss…dumb assed French (7/12/2010 7:56:20 PM)

I see we disagree on who is a child and who is not...but if someone murders another and the family forgives the murderer do you think he should walk away free?

If time goes by should a murder be forgiven? How about rape?

There were no resources wasted...he was in custody. ..a simple extradition and a judge would have determined the punishment. There would be no trial he already pleaded guilty.

So... you do not see that this takes money for the US government to run after this guy?

He hasnt? your sure of this? you have had him followed and can say that with absolute certainty? Are you sure he isnt a pedophile according to the DSM definition, which states someone doesnt have to commit the act to be a pedophile?

I, personally, dont care if he raped only one... it was one too many. But i dont know without a doubt that he hasnt raped others. Money and fame has a way of hushing parents up.

Victims of rape tend to have different priorities.

I think it isn't our problem, it is the problem of the government of his current residency.

Like I said, I would recommend you invest this much passion into keeping sex criminals in prison in this country... you would have a cheerleader in me if you were advocating that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Lousy Swiss…dumb assed French (7/12/2010 8:07:12 PM)

I never said we shouldnt. Nor do i see the two as a conflict. Ya know, julia, we can do both. But, until money is no longer in the cycle, it wont happen.

Money can buy lots of things... jail cells in countty jails for murderers, instead of sending them off to prison.

van der sloot is another example.

Im sure polanksi bought some leniency, but he has also made a mockery of our judicial system. That doesnt seem to bother you, it bothers the hell out of me.

No I don't think it was more than a phone call... he was not hiding his identity or location… I do think it was ridiculous it took so long…Someone finally had the guts to ask that he be detained.

I don’t understand were you think there should be time limits on the prosecution of rape...and a little girl...or little underage teen if you please to boot. I know you don't believe he should have the right to do what he did but it makes no sense to defend the decision.

Because people have dual citizenship money and power should not make them above the law. If an American citizen with citizenship in both the US and Canada were to commit a crime in Canada I believe if he were captured in the US he should be turned over to Canada and abide by their laws. After all he was a citizen and pledged to obey the laws of the country of citizenship.

It is not for the Swiss to judge if our laws and punishment are proper or right. He is a citizen of the US and committed a crime under our laws…They and France should recognize that.

His victim doesn't want him to do one more day, but you already said you don't care about that...

You do not speak for all "victims"

I live in LA county. He would be coming here. I pay taxes in this state. I don't want him taking space away from someone who is a direct threat to my community....

The punishment of crimes has nothing to do with the wishes of the victims ...do you believe it should?

Yes I do believe that is something that courts take into account every day around this country...

I did not say i spoke for "all" victims. Being a victim myself allows me to speak my own mind.

The part i said i didnt care about was the fact that, after a sentencing, the victim has no other say in the legal process, unless there is a murder conviction and a death penalty or early release request.

Neither of those situations apply to this case.

He pled guilty. Period. That ends her part in all this. Its now strictly a legal matter. One i do feel he should have to man up for.

It doesn't keep me awake at night. I tell you what keeps me awake at night, Megan's list, and I check it every couple of months

Damn he is a rapist!!!!!! what is wrong with you? That is part of what your tax dollar is for to catch and prosecute criminals. There can not be and should not be time limits on capital crimes.

Hell just because he has French citizenship should not protect him from prosecution.
