Bog snorkelling, nettle eating competitions, running down the road with a burning tar barrel on their backs, chasing a lump of cheese down a hill to name but a few. Oh and my ancestors were champion tripe fighters and shin kickers, the former being two men standing off each other with a length of tripe ( uncooked pigs belly), the aim of the game was to whip each other with it until either one gives up, or has not tripe weapon left. Shin kicking was similar, two men standing off each other wearing clog irons, the name of the game was to boot the other persons shins until they one gave up, or their shin broke. Clog irons wear iron shod clogs, typical industrial wear for the time. But red necks I thought everything they did involved a can of petrol (gasoline)
