I didnt mean you Lady P if it read that way.

It wasn't a matter of Me reading it that way, heartcream.  The fact is, I have done that.  I may even need more fingers than I have on one hand to count the number of times that I've done it.  (I can say that I wouldn't need both hands.)  I know it wasn't meant that way.  At the same time, I don't have an issue with standing behind statements that I have made.

juliaoceania -> RE: Huh? (7/13/2010 8:23:21 PM)

fast reply

In my experience threads run in trends...

We will get a lot of collar threads, or a lot of safeword threads, or slave v submissive threads, or masochism threads, or daddy/daughter threads.. etc etc etc...

Right now we are on a "What are you sick fucks doing to each other?" streak... sit back and enjoy it

LadyPact -> RE: Huh? (7/13/2010 8:28:00 PM)

I have to wonder, julia, if the 'what are you sick fucks doing' happens to run in cycles that coincide with school holidays and vacations.  [8D]

Perhaps they log in between World of Warcraft, facebook, and pornhub to see what's up and they get a lil more summer vacation education than they bargained for...he he

heartcream -> RE: Huh? (7/13/2010 8:32:10 PM)

I dont think someone really needs to have a specific reason to be here do they? I feel like anyone that bothers to come and sign up has every right to be here if there needs to be one. I doubt it though.

People can say what they want. I'm down with that.

I think that people should say what they want, especially if they heartfelt believe that they are saying something that will benefit others.. But if a person consistently finds that the things they encounter in a subculture offends their sensibilities, they might begin to wonder if they are perhaps in the wrong group of people.

It seems pretty futile to rail against a buncha people doing what makes 'em happy, and while they have a right to question us, we have a right to wonder why they bother coming here... see, that works both ways.

Missokyst -> RE: Huh? (7/13/2010 8:45:46 PM)

LMAO.. yep I have always been glad to have gotten into this stuff before the net, before the realm, before the rules and yet I live to tell about it, safe or not.
But, this is a PC world we live in.  Tell someone to just DO IT and you become an enabler of perversion.
:) I am very glad I am not PC, and other peoples rules are not for me.  Of course this does make me seem like a bitch at times.  But thats cool

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Huh? (7/13/2010 8:54:25 PM)

Well sure anyone has a right to be here, at least until the administration of the forum says otherwise.

It isn't as if anyone is lobbying to form a BDSM Coallition of Elitist Posters. They have a rght to be here, and I have a right to wonder why they bother. It isn't anything more than a natural progression of logic.

Frankly, I enjoy the odd-balls who make things interesting. They play nicely into my own odd sense of humor. I'd go so far as to say, I miss them when they get bored and wander off. At least, I miss them until the next one comes along to entertain me.

DemonKia -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 1:59:48 AM)

FR, after skipping thru most of the thread

You know that over on F e t there are numerous very serious groups dedicated to only allowing postings well within your expectations, Jeffff. There are those having these more hardcore conversations, but it's in groups such as 'Owners & Property' & 'Male Owner, Female Property' (those two, in particular, seem very compatible) . . ...

(Oh, & note carefully I'm kinda in the anti-F e t camp these days. I'm back hangin' out here for reason . . . . )

On the other hand, they tend to be very serious & the larkin' about & snarkin' about thing does not necessarily go over well, so I can understand that might not work for some or all of those sympathetic to the complaint of the OP . . . . .

CM's forums, being open & much less exclusive than the whole F e t thing would, I expect, get a an extra helping of the 'others' that F e t is not meeting the needs of . . .. . Don't know about where you're at, but here in Northern Cali F e t has 'taken over' the real-life 'communities' of out-&-organized kinksters. People exchange F e t info at munches, parties, classes, etc, & large amounts of event publicizing & etc take place on F e t. & CM is widely disparaged as a waste of time for anything but scammers & professional-BDSM-would-bes (which mostly is about the 'profile side' of CM -- these message boards don't get much mention). I kinda expect to get a disproportionate amount of fakers, flakers, & fantasists over here, if anything . .. . .

(Ah, yes, 'community'. When it comes to kink that's 'fractious communities', at best. But what organization & cohesion that there is being so thoroughly 'infiltrated' by F e t is almost even more remarkable . .. . . )

&, what LP said about school being out for the summer . ... . . .

*psst* Kia, you can post fet , fetlife, and/ or fetlife.com on the forums without the extra spaces.... although Firefox's spell checker will underline 2 of the 3 in red for you. [:D]
Just sayin' [;)]

sravaka -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 2:29:50 AM)

at risk of being off topic....  when do you all see the "golden age" of the CM boards having been, and what went wrong?  What has led people to be leaving for Fetlife?

I only found this a couple years ago, but even I think, jeeez.  this used to be more fun and interesting.  What ever happened to so and so?  etc.

And yet...  it's been exactly the same thing everywhere I've been.   There were long lost glory days on any usenet group I ever read (bdsm or otherwise).   I remember finding castle realm sort of adorable for what it was...  (though every bit as worthy of being taken with a grain of salt and/or adjusted to fit one's own preferences as whatever more hard core stuff I ran across then)

This, I think, is potentially the beauty of CM's format (and at the same time, the source of aggravation):  it can carry gajillions of threads, of gajillions of persuasions.  There can be a place to comfort the hapless young anal virgin person (were we not all new and scared at one time?) and right next door, a place to talk about things that amateurs should not try at home.

That's an ideal, of course....

Sorry... I have no point, other than wondering what I might have missed out on by virtue of not being here a few years earlier.

On a current thread I just learned drooling is gross. On another thread I learned anal sex is a hard limit. On yet another some folks are being chastised for not falling in love before they play.

We have had some posters here lately who thing beating a person is a BAD BAD thing.

And of course, we must remember to treat even the stupidest newbies with respect.

When did this place turn into Castle Realm?

I'm not going to read 5 pages of posts, but I can't help but say something about the anal sex, I didn't see that, but whoever that is must be out of their mind!  As for the hitting?  I'm sorry, I thought this was a BDSM website.  If I can't find somebody to hit me with assorted inanimate objects over here, then where am I supposed to go?

Apparently, I missed a lot when I was in CO.

Vendaval -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 2:44:27 PM)

It's so not fun when all the screaming stops...[sm=sm.gif]

Jeffff -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 2:45:56 PM)

Yeah , I hate that part too.

fipsie69 -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 3:47:26 PM)

Sorry to diss this venerable gathering [sm=line.gif] but you are sounding a little like the Monty Python - When I were a lad - sketch (when I were a lad I used to live int middle of road int cardboard box. luxury! when I were a lad I used to ...)

or the 2 geezers in the balcony in Sesame Street.

Getting old are we? [sm=lol.gif]

fipsie69 -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 5:06:10 PM)

may have been the Muppet Show, my memory's not so good these days ;-)

DarlingSavage -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 5:10:29 PM)

Good lord, if those are your pictures, dear, you can tie me up anytime!  I'll scream all you want!  And it was the Muppet Show.

thornhappy -> RE: Huh? (7/14/2010 7:21:30 PM)

Monty Python's "Four Yorkshiremen", my personal best.  I like the version done at "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball", with Rowan Atkinson.  The first time I saw it was on a tape of "Monty Python Live At The Hollywood Bowl".  Awesome!

I trimmed only for the sake of space and answering your question.

You probably caught it.  In My opinion, it was probably the best around the tail end of 2008 into early 2009.  It was through this time frame that various elements contributed to it waning off.

The first, of course, was FetLife.  Make no mistake.  I'll be the first person to stand up and say that if you have interest in finding where local people and events are to you, Fet is the way to go.  Anybody who really wants to do this thing away from the computer is probably better served by that site.  (It has it's detractions, but that's another subject.)

At roughly the same time, it's important to remember that moderation was a lot different here and a lot more strict.  Some of us 'tell it like it is' types had enough gold bordered emails to start using them for wallpaper or got outright moderated.  Specifically for a lot milder comments than you see here under the present moderation.

During this, there were a lot of folks in the real time community who weren't especially made to feel welcome here.  If it was a leather person who remarked on what their definition of a Master is, they basically got thrown to the wolves.  There were debates on what kind of slave was better than the other.  The discussion of whether an online only dynamic was 'real' were pretty crazy.

Don't forget that, during this, the influx of fake profile mounted and people who were coming here that have very little or no knowledge about BDSM still were flooding the gates.  The people who were posting upcoming events and positive experiences became fewer, because many of them had been drowned out.  The upcoming events that do get posted go mostly unanswered because so few people on the site actually go to SELF or Beat Me In St Louis.  The number of active folks dwindle more and more.

That's My honest answer to your question.
