White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that NASA Administrator Charles Bolden must have misspoken when he told Al Jazeera last month that one of his top priorities is to reach out to Muslim countries.


"That was not his task and that's not the task of NASA," Gibbs said.  Bolden, though, said last month in the interview that it was President Obama who gave him that task. He made a similar claim in February.


The White House also backed up Bolden last week when his remarks first stirred controversy. A White House spokesman last Tuesday said Obama wants NASA to engage with the world's best scientists and that to meet that challenge, NASA must "partner with countries around the world like Russia and Japan, as well as collaboration with Israel and with many Muslim-majority countries."


NASA last week walked back Bolden's claim that Muslim outreach was the "perhaps foremost" plank of his mission, saying that Bolden was merely talking about his "outreach" responsibilities and that space exploration is still NASA's No. 1 job.


But Gibbs on Monday appeared to deny that Bolden was asked to focus on Muslim outreach at all.

Status: offline 		Manufacured. Trace the story back and you'll find the origin in the swirl of the right wing echo chamber. Drudge -> Rush -> FNC -> blogs -> Drudge -> Rush -> FNC over and over again. It may have gotten some coverage in the mainstream, personally never saw it in the Chicago Tribune until yesterday and that was in a column by Krauthammer.

The president changing NASAs mission from space exploration to a Muslim outreach program is an issue to scientists, theologians, and other thinking people, I am sure.

What's obvious is the repeated liberal obfuscation of a new issue created by the Obama administration itself every week, the latter of which considered in entirety has resulted in the Obama administration losing an ever-increasing amount of faith amongst an ever-increasing majority of "We the people..."

What upsets them is that anyone is allowed to report such unflattering facts about our representatives. Look at kens arguments, he claims this is the fault of right wing news...

No ken, right wing news merely reported it.

Which begs the question, by the way - where is left wing news on this, why the gaping omission on their part. Where is CNN, where is the New York Times. Where is CBS, Reuters, the AP?

For years I have been petitioning them to dump all of the elderly and the Muslims out into space.

Then we go for the Jews. The event will be catered.

What`s wrong with improving relations with the Muslim community?

However that happens.

If the guy had said we were using NASA to target Muslims for bombing,cons would have cheered.

Hahaha this is fucking funny. It would be one thing if you were actually informed enough to discuss "actual issues" like the unwinnable war in A-stan, the deflationary spiral which is now underway, the complete inability of Congress to do anything at all about out of control spending, particular military welfare, the de facto bancruptcy of every single state, the approaching end of the Oil Age which has allowed industrial civilization to florish, and so on.

But you think a trivial statement by a minor government functionary is an "actual issue".
