Is it an association of white people, or is it an association of white people that believe in white supremacy? That's where the difference may lie. We've got Polish and German clubs here in Dayton. for obama to be the democratic nomination, people still had to vote. meaning the same 12.8%(subtracting the 1 or 2% that may have voted for McCain) voted for him the same as they did in the actual election. the SAME group of people. i didnt live in the US when that happened, at at this point, it doesnt matter- considering neither of them are currently in office. however, since the black/african-american population was slightly larger at that time(13%, 2004), it wouldnt have mattered if they showed up in larger numbers since bush won by a landslide.

The name is decades old,from a very different time.They work against discrimination.That`s how they "advance"folks. Excuse me Domiguy, but in Richmond VA is the most beautiful Black Shriners hall. There are many many Black Shriners and Masons. And the reason there is a BLACK shirners Hall in Richmond is until very recently, like the last 10 years, I believe the WHITE Shriners would not let Blacks in. However they will let any race of sick kid go to their hospitals. And yes I have seen many fat black men on those silly little scooters wearing their Fez hats. Peace out. C

Don't misunderstand me, I am fully aware of the historical context and I in fact support the NAACP completely...but I am interested in why one organization is racist, and another isn't. The fact that blacks have been (and still do) suffer rampant discrimination does not change the innate nature of the NAACP. It exists to promote one race, ergo it is racist.

Arpig, instead of trying to seek misinformation here, why not go to the NAACP's own website and read our mission statement and history. The NAACP is NOT promoting Black supremecy, but rather we wish to equal the playing field. The late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was the lawyer for the NAACP when he argued Brown vs Board of Ed. and started the ball rolling on school desegration. Separate is NOT equal. Forgive any misspellings. I am tired tonight. But if you really want to LEARN and be able to have a discussion from a factual point of view go to the NAACP website and learn. Knowledge is power. And can lead to understanding.
