My girl is probably way smarter than me, has far better computer skills, is an excellent cook, we discuss various subjects, go to zoos, museums and anytime I need to know anything she looks it up instantly or gives me ideas of how to do it myself. She encourages me to grow as a Dom and  as a person , I encourage her to grow as a submissive and as a person.

After she became my submissive I found she actually blossomed more and now I find myself actually helping her with things such as dishes as We discuss the days activities. It is funny, Dom washing dishes as she dries but it is fun.

She encourages me , I encourage her and NO she is not a doormat.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I personally have known many female dominants and never have i seen the type of attitude you seem to be projecting on them as a group. Granted there are exceptions to every rule but for the most part the Dommes i've seen tend to value an intelligent sub/slave.

I myself am owned by a Dom/Domme couple, my Mistress personally will simply not deal with the doormat image. She places untold value on my intelligence and has often stated this fact in numerous posts whose thread was similar to this one.

As she is fond of stating “i can buy a doormat at Lowe's".

I am very dissapointed to see that many Dommes sees a slave as dumb, stupid or a doormat, because they chose a life of service. I am an educated, professional who chose being a slave because I love servicing my owners, I am not seeking emplyment or $ or anything but service, helping others in their typical day, in their work and in living better. A slave is there to improve the quality of life to their owners. Why is it that many people dont see it this way?
john

I see it that way.

One of my preferences is to have a slave who is in college currently or who has earned a degree.

A person has to be pretty witty, pretty fast, and pretty smart to keep up with even the basic conversations in my house (a house of total geeks -- science, culture, history, etc).

However, if someone wants to offer their services as they relate to their degree or job to me, then that degree or job needs to be something I can use. An accountant is not too useful to me -- don't make enough to need one. A person with a computer degree -- I have enough computer knowledgeable people wth Tom & Fox all ready. A person with an English degree or secretarial skills is far more useful. Even someone who maybe has a degree in something but works in another field (philosophy major who now does home improvement/yard/household work) could be useful.

So a slave has to click on two levels in my house: personality and skills.

But if a person has the personality and attitude and is willing to develop skills then they are extra useful to me because my needs and desires change from time to time.

twicehappy,

I like the quote from your Mistress! I am fond of saying, "If I wanted a worm, I'd dig one up in the backyard."

This is rather funny actually. I get tired of short emails that do not reflect any intelligence or thought beyond....."what would you DO to me if I was in your house?" Or, a mistake I have made a few too many times. Get them into an instant message format and they simply cannot carry on a conversation about anything other than D's practice. I get bored very quickly if a person lacks either one of two things. #1 a good sense of humour #2 a brain

i have not seen this as the majority.  As my Master says, "Anyone can dominate a doormat, but where is the challenge in that?  Where is the pride?  Where is the fulfillment?"

Those who want dumb....might just be looking for an intellectual equal.

I personally have seen the attitude he's talking about more by male doms then fem doms but I've still seen it. There are women who get off making a male feel inferior to her. It's sad really, but it does happen.
I know one couple, a Fem dom and a slave. They met at a play party and he started following her like a little lost puppy dog, but that's because she was the first one to treat him like a human being, and still does to this day. They've been together for three years. So yes it does happen whether anyone has seen it or not.
I, for one, always treat everyone with the same amount of respect until they give me reason not to respect them.

To johncw1.  Well my boy you and I have talked with one another and maybe you remember me and maybe you dont.  But your intelligence or lack of it was never a question or an issue.  What it came down to was the fact that I was retired and not wealthy.   When you discovered that you disappeared into the night and didnt come back.  I wish you well in your search but just remember to state the facts in truth and dont paint things a different colour that they are.  To all others I give greetings and hope my statement is not offensive to you.

Not offensive but it did portray bitterness and resentment on your part, or you would not have felt it necessary to flame someone publically for a very personal issue.

Well I did not intend to flame the person in question but was simply stating that he says he is not in the lifestyle or slave status for monetary return.  And I simply said I was retired and that was the last I heard from him.  And as for bitter not a chance.  But when I read something that makes an unqualified statement angainst Doms and Dommes, then I take exception to that and feel I have the right to express my opinion.  If not just say so and I will keep my remarks and thoughts to myself and then I will stay off the message boards.  Thanks for your time and thoughts.

john,
The section I quoted above generates some questions for you and/or others in the same situation. Where is your priority? If the choice was between being active as a "professional" or "service" within your ideal lifestyle arrangement which would you choose?

I've frequently posted in threads that it is impossible for a slave to serve two Masters. Under my personal, (and ONLY personal) definition serving two Masters would entail having a job or career outside my household. I took the required path and made decisions to achieve that goal. Then I began my search

For my slave to "improve" my "quality of live"; I require many tasks that are menial and physical. However, just as important as it is for my slave to stimulate me physically she must be able to do so mentally. she must be able to carry on a conversation, she must be able to present herself appropriately in all public venues from board room cocktail parties to the play room at local dungeon. Being dumb, or a doormat, or without social skills was exclusionary during the search process. Confidence, and projection of self worth were desirable traits to seek.

I am fortunate to have a slave who is all those things and more. Who could be as successful as she wanted to be in business; who has talents in many things. Someone who has all those abilities to offer and freely gives them to an appreciating person is an asset worth protecting and being proud. Who is more intelligent between us depends upon the subject and topic. If spelling is an indication beth's "Mensa"; I'm riding the "short bus" wearing a red helmet.

But the fact that she presented herself to me in her entirety makes is special. There is no other "master" in her life. she "gave up" any other potential to serve as my slave. If you don't think I appreciate and understand he value of that decision, visit us and we'll chat. Meanwhile, if the same was required by your "one" would you and could you make the same decision?

Maybe it's just Me, but I didn't feel this post portrayed any bittnerness or resentment.  I did think it was succinct and classy.  The OP opened himself up to a possibility to being called out.  He states he is concerned that all Dominants only want a doormat.  It would seem this is all he is finding.
Now he has been reminded that his intelligence was not a negative consideration.   In that case, it seems the OP was concerned more about the pocketbook than about he might be treated in a relationship.
Welcome to the boards, SirTask.

lucky agrees with most other comments. Nearly all the Dommes lucky has ever met want and appreciate service and often use disinterest in service as a filter for weeding out players. Likewise, lucky has never found having higher degrees an impediment, provided the slave has humility.

I prefer them educated and hardworking as well. In fact the application form for my Household requires at least a degree of intelligence to fill out, as does learning all that is required of them to properly serve me and my needs. To complete this post I also have to state though that people keep in mind that surrendering and being mine completely is not a sign of a "doormat" or a "stupid" individual for me. In fact my Beloved is even more intelligent than I am in my oppinion, but I own him heart, mind, and body -- and he is an extension of my will and desires. I challange him both physically and mentally -- and he uses all of his talents in serving me.
