I didn't have any cancelled checks by then, and even though the collection company said they would notify the credit agencies, it hung around a goooooood long time. It's gone now, thank all the gods. quote:

I had that happen to me for $75 from a medical provider where I used to live. They had a hiccup in their billing system that showed non-payment; I'd paid every single bill they sent me. They sent the bill to a collection company. Even though I left forwarding info through the phone company and had a valid forwarding address, those hosers at the collection agency never notified me. I didn't find out about this until I applied for a mortgage. That stupid $75 trashed my credit for 7 years. Oh, I get that. I'm not speaking to individual cases in that specific article. I was just referring to the practice in general. As an aside, I'm surprised you weren't able to get that taken off your credit report. That would certainly have been worthy of a dispute, in my opinion. I hope you've got it all worked out now, and it's not still following you around.
