Part of the confused rhetoric is that people don't understand what health care really costs when you add all the elements together. And that employers pick up some of all of the tab doesn't make it free either. If people got that they're looking at a $13,000/year rapidly rising at double digit rates bill, they'd be screaming for the government to do something. And to pay that only to be dropped when you need the benefits? Markets alone aren't going to fix that (it's why they haven't already). So if I pay some tax dollars to create a larger pool to spread out those costs, that's fine. If regulations are needed to help control costs, also fine. Will there be complications to consider? Of course. I've no quarrel with regulating the financial industries either. If that's "socialism," then OK, let's be socialists.
